Worth every dime.

I wish I had this (and Vol.1) early on in my studies. It is a highly scholarly work, however, the authors style of writing isn’t dry or textbookish, she presents the material in such a way that a natural flow develops. I would highly recommend these two volumes as a starting point for a solo learner.

Marvelous Book

We astrologers are fortunate to live at a time when three of the finest astrologers on the planet - I'm not exaggerating - are actively writing, teaching and sharing their knowledge with us. I refer, of course, to Chris Brennan, Ben Dykes and the author of this excellent text/workbook, Demetra George. What a triumverate! Each of them brings technical, historical, philosophical and practical expertise to the field - and, indeed, helps to shape the field. In this work, Demetra George completes her two-volume opus on the practice of ancient/traditional astrology. She writes with great clarity and the sensitivity of a poet, explaining each concept with precision, and in such a way that the material is not threatening or obscure to students at any level of experience. This is a set of teachings to savor, as one works through the exercise sections that follow each chapter: the student organically builds a firm knowledge base that is both theoretical and practical.I marvel at how carefully Demetra George presents her material, explaining the basics without sacrificing nuance. Holding a Masters degree in Classics, she presents her own translations of ancient texts, exploring how traditional precepts can be adaped and applied to today's world. Her books blend seamlessly with the works of her esteemed colleagues, Brennan and Dykes, in such a way that we have in them an astonishingly complete body of knowledge that not only allows the past to live anew, but to breathe and thrive. At an advanced age, this astrologer is still learning and excited by classical/traditional astrology in all of its facets. My deepest thanks to Demetra George for being such a clear light on this path.

Excellent book but very few visual charts

This is an excellent book. The reason why I gave it 3 stars and the only problem is that when Demetra writes about example charts, you expect to see visual example charts, but you won't. Instead, what Demetra does is that she WRITES about example charts without giving you the visual chart itself. It is hard for me to follow astrology without visuals, without seeing an actual chart. She will tell you "Example Charts, Chart 1: With a Scorpio Ascendant, Mars is in the domicile lord . . . Mars is placed in the eleventh house . . . etc. " but you do not see that visual, that actual chart. It takes a lot of mental effort to form a picture in my head of what she means. Like I have to think “oh OK Mars is in 11th ok and ok ascendant is here etc.” Whereas if I had seen the chart, I would get it right away. It is sad that she did not realize how important visuals are in the learning context because she spent so much work writing this book and having visual charts for her chart examples would have been truly priceless. What a pity for the astrology student to be deprived of such a tool! I hope that if she ever makes a second edition, she realizes that learning is not just about reading but it is also about seeing. I hope she fixes this.

Important Astrological Work by One of the World's Top Astrologers

This book is deep and serious, a must have for any student or practicing astrologer. Not a light read, but very worth the time.

Outstanding contribution towards Traditional Astrology

Many congratulations to Demetra George on the publication on Volume 2 of her magnum opus on Traditional Astrology - much delayed and keenly anticipated but worth the wait. This second volume concentrates on three topics - (a) the astrological houses & house rulership; (b) chart rulers in their many guises; & (c) length of life (the shortest section, only two chapters). On a personal note I am particularly pleased to see the inclusion of a simplified scheme from J B Morin for interpreting the outcome of house topics.Noteworthy features are: first, a detailed and scholarly comparison of topics for each house, spanning Hellenistic to modern authors and second, the inclusion of what I shall call her "teaching material". This latter presented at the end of most of the chapters and guides the reader through applying the ideas mentioned in the chapter to (i) the two exemplar charts (Jacqueline Onassis & Pablo Picasso) & (ii) your own chart (or any other chart, for that matter). These teaching sections (in both volumes) contribute significantly to the length of the books but are a real attempt to teach the serious student how to apply these principles. I know of few other astrology books that make such a serious and sustained effort to enable the student to master the work; perhaps because it is such a tricky subject to get one's mind around? The problem with reading astrology books - as in attending lectures - is that they don't really teach you much unless you take the ideas and apply them to a variety of charts. It is the time spent in this application that really counts if you are studying the subject. As such, these volumes are a major step towards providing a traditional astrology education. The volume concludes with a detailed glossary and an index to both volumes.

Go too book for hellenistic astology enthusiast

This book goes through all the houses in detailand gives you insight into placements of planets and how they effect certain spears of your life. This is not the ABC system that you find in modern astology. In this book you learn the angularity of the house, the joys ect matter a great deal. You can also learn other concepts like "master of the nativity "This is a follow on from volum 1 and it is vary important that you do the exercises if you want to get the best out of this book.

Amazing Content

The *only* issue I have with this book is an aesthetic one. The spine illustration doesn’t line up with that of Volume I, and there is no subtitle like there is on the cover of Volume I.Volume One: Assessing Planetary ConditionVolume Two: ?Other than that I have no complaints!
