Why does the ink dry up? i love the pen, but if i don't constantly use it i have a hard time getting it to write again. i am new to fountain pens.

This is very common in fountain pens. They are meant to be used often. I can leave mine at my desk for the weekend and it will still work when I arrive Monday. Just remove the nip piece and run it under warm water to flush out the dried ink in the nip channel. Hope that helps!

Can this pen be used as a dip pen?

No it cannot. I would advise against buying this pen, i have been having probems in getting ink to flow to the nip. Not worth the investment, too bad i could not return it for a full refund.

What ink brand does it take?

I think any water-based ink should work well. I use Waterman and Pelikan inks, which can also be ordered on Amazon.
