Do they block out so much noise that my child would be unable to have a conversation whilst wearing them?

They block out enough noise that things aren’t overwhelming. You can easily have a conversation while they are wearing these, but louder noises are blocked out. Sometimes I wear them myself and I love them! We have three pairs!

My son wears glasses. Does anyone have a child who can comfortably wear these over glasses for at least one hour?

I can say that if I were to wear ear pro like this while wearing glasses, it would feel uncomfortable. Not impossible, he may be able to make it an hour.

What’s upgraded about them?

I believe from looking at mine, there was metal inside of the foam cushion that sits on top of the child's head to help keep form. That has been removed in the updated product.

Can these be worn to sleep to block noise.?

They are a little bulky so I don’t think they would be very comfortable to sleep in. They are not completely noise canceling but they do block noise. Our autistic son Wears them during the day and they mute the noise but he can still hear us when we talk to him.
