Dometic SeaStar Pro Hydraulic Steering Kit, HK7500A-3

The unit replaced an undersized unit which was leaking. I was able to use the same mounting provisions, and install with ease. It does take a second person to help with the flushing, and bleeding operation.I wish the connections to the feed tube/oil bottle were better, since there was a leak while holding up the bottle to fill.I am very happy with the product.

I almost never write reviews, but the cost of this unit combined with the horrible installation and ridiculous instructions forced me to warn others.For background and not from a place of arrogance, I am a highly intelligent person with both strong engineering skills and technical proficiency.With that said, this setup cost us well over $1300, on sale. The included instructions are nothing short of comical. The diagrams are mismatched, the installation instructions require you to flip back and forth between seemingly countless pages and finally there is missing information on where to connect the hoses.All of this resulted in us (4 people in total) taking well over 10 hours to install the unit, including having to drain it and swap the position of the Port and Starboard hydraulic lines. To be clear, they are color-coded out of the box and the steering pump is marked port and starboard. The problem is at the outboard engine. NO WHERE is it shown or stated that you have to switch the hoses. Meaning you have to connect the Port hose on the left and Starboard on the right, as you are facing the motor from inside the boat.The bleeding process is a JOKE. The instructions tell you to hold the unit to prevent it from moving. Good luck! I am very strong and it pulled right out of my hand. Instead I got a 1 inch PVC pipe cut to size and then cut up the side to snap on to the shaft. Also, to help someone avoid a major headache, the bleeder tube is a plain tube. No brass locking connectors like you see on one of the YouTube installation videos. As a result, you have to hold it in place to avoid it popping off and leaking oil all over the place.Sure once you get through all of this BS, it does work much better for our big motor on our pontoon boat, but for the price SeaStar needs to include brass locking hardware with the hoses, including on the bottle connector (the plastic one leaked, because they stuck a thumbtack through it) and stop being cheap. The instructions need to be rewritten to be clear and not require flipping pages and finally the folks who work at SeaStar need to be trained on proper customer service. My technician was rude, condescending and dismissive.I would not recommend this product to anyone who values their time and sanity.

Not as good as I was expecting. If I ever have to buy one of these in the future, I'm just going to buy the cheaper model. It is better than cable steering thought. It has the worst installation instructions I have ever seen. Had no issues with bleeding the system.

This is a great product and I still give it 5 stars. BUT make sure if you're upgrading from cable steering that the cylinder that sits in front of the motor has room for the motor to trim! I have a jack plate with a 6.5" offset and when I went to install the cylinder hit my transom when I was only a quarter way trimmed up. Only 2 solutions I had was get a jack plate with more offset or remove the jack plate. So its no more jack plate for me! Still a 5 star product I just didn't think about it when buying.

The SeaStar Pro kit HK7500A-3 is an outstanding product. The directions are easy to follow and it is easy to install. The steering is very smooth. Tech support from Dometic is outstanding. Overall interaction with Dometic and the product installation in truly outstanding.The kit came without the fill kit which is pictured on the item posting and is listed in the parts list item description When I contacted the seller Huge time sales they would not stand by their product description and would not make it right for the customer so boaters out there don't do business with Huge time sales.
