What are the ingredients ? Is this natural?

For what information it's worth, I looked for these chemicals on Wikipedia... "Methylchloroisothiazolinone is found in many water-based personal care products and cosmetics.[2] Methylchloroisothiazolinone was first used in cosmetics in the 1970s. It is also used in glue production, detergents, paints, fuels, and other industrial processes. Methylchloroisothiazolinone is known by the registered tradename Kathon CG when used in combination with methylisothiazolinone.[3] Methylchloroisothiazolinone may be used in combination with other preservatives including ethylparaben, benzalkonium chloride, and bronopol." And.... "Methylisothiazolinone and other isothiazolinone-derived biocides are used for controlling microbial growth in water-containing solutions.[2] Two of the most widely used isothiazolinone biocides are 5-chloro-2-methyl-4-isothiazolin-3-one (chloromethylisothiazolinone or CMIT) and 2-methyl-4-isothiazolin-3-one (methylisothiazolinone or MIT), which are the active ingredients in a 3:1 mixture (CMIT:MIT) sold commercially as Kathon. Kathon is supplied to manufacturers as a concentrated stock solution containing from 1.5-15% of CMIT/MIT. For applications the recommended use level is from 6 ppm to 75 ppm active isothiazolones. Biocidal applications range from industrial water storage tanks to cooling units, in processes as varied as mining, paper manufacturing, metalworking fluids and energy production. Kathon also has been used to control slime in the manufacture of paper products that contact food. In addition, this product serves as an antimicrobial agent in latex adhesives and in paper coatings that also contact food.[3]"

Is there an alternative for this, like a generic additive for regular water, that I can buy instead of this?

I’m not familiar with a generic brand that will be diluted enough that would flow. I tried using something different and it clogged the tip and broke my steamer. I will sometimes add a cap of this solution to the water and it works perfectly. I still have clean floor and a fresh smelling home.

How much do you add to the Symphony model?

You fill the container with this. You do not dilute this.

Can I put Murphy's Oil in with my water for my steam mop

DO NOT PUT ANYTHING OTHER THAN PLAIN DISTILLED WATER IN YOUR FLOOR STEAMER! Been there; done that; ruined my 1st steam mop by putting a little bleach in the water. Now, I dilute Mrs. Meyer's surface cleaner & spray it directly onto the floor. I would definitely dilute Murphy's Oil Soap and change your pads often. You don't want your floor sticky. Spray a little - mop a little - repeat. I'm sure you can lightly spray anything you want on the floor and then steam over it. It makes the room smell amazing!

LIGHT SCENT WHICH DISSIPATES

The scents of these demineralized waters are light and only last for the time one is mopping. That's ok. The life of your Bissell steam floor cleaner will last longer if you use demineralized water. I should know. Through time, I am on my third Bissell steamer! Now, what I DON'T get is the variable price from scent to scent which can actually be a couple of dollars for the same amount of the water! What is with that? And certain scents are often not available! Why aren't these demineralized waters offered in larger amounts? One of thee bottles is good for only two to two and a half uses. Kind of expensive when you look at it that way, eh? We could buy a gallon of distilled water but, hey, it is so much easier and, may I say, pleasant to pour half of a bottle into our steamer's container and get going! We have a maid now who is a professional cleaner. She much prefers this sanitary way of cleaning our sun porch's tile and our kitchen floor. No streaks. Sanitized and pleasant scent which is gone in a flash but at least pleasant while being used!
