Q: What am I buying here? I clicked on the handheld sewing machine however all the reviews are for a shower curtain.

I concur. The vendor is selling Mickey Mouse shower curtains while the product is a sewing machine. And there is no way to alert Amazon to what must be a scam to steer us to this product. Not exactly the Mom & Pop corner store.

Q: What kind of stitch does this make?

It makes a straight stitch, but it has to be tied off at each end or it unravels. You cannot make a very long stitch, more than a few inches, due to the unraveling. I sent it back.

Q: Where is the manual online?

I don't know about an online manual. The machine came with some sketchy instructions that were as difficult to understand as the machine is to use. This is not a good product; it is a waste of money.

Q: can this be use to sow on buttons?

No I don't think so I can't even get it to sew two pieces of fabric properly
