Yes it will, 1/2 inches too 5/8 line, I am a tower climber, I love the grab

You'll find many typos and errors in item descriptions on Amazon, truthfully anytime you want the correct answer to an important specification question on a product, go straight to the manufacturer. This appears to be a discontinued rope grab and Guardian states that their models 1500, 1503, 1505, 1506, 1507, 1508, 1509, and 1511 rope grabs are only designed for 5/8" rope. 5/16" rope is only half the diameter of 5/8" rope, there's no way it would be safe. This doesn't come with a rope. It attaches to a 5/8" or 5/16" rope that you must purchase separately.
