I've always placed it a pot of water and boiled it per instructions. After use placed it in a bag and in freezer. Second and all additional uses placed in boiling water for maybe 10-15 min. When using I place in a turkish towel, provides awesome moist heat. First used one years ago as a relief from migraine headaches. Fantastic.After first use I think you can now microwave.Hope this helps.
