I bought this controller because I wanted the flexibility to create my own lighting schemes/patterns/colors for a string of 500 LEDs to use for holiday lighting on the outside of our home.I watched some "how-to" videos for the LEDEdit software on YouTube before purchasing, and was confident I could figure it out. I also managed to find a download of the latest version to play with before buying this controller. Yes, it does take some tinkering and trial & error to learn the software... for me, this was no problem, but if you lack computer skills or the ability to teach yourself how to use something, this is not for you.After some time playing with it, I managed to create my own lighting layouts, custom animations, and color schemes. Perfect! Now I have custom lighting schemes for Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, and whatever other holidays I feel like creating schemes for. In fact, I had fun playing with it and learning how to do more with it at the same time.While several features lend itself better to matrix displays, I found that it's just as useful for string lighting when you want full control. You can even create animations in other software and import them into LEDEdit to use as lighting schemes.The controller is easy to use out of the box (it has its own built in animations), but if you're buying this controller it's because you want to make your own lighting animations. Best advice, find the software online before buying and watch YouTube videos to see if you can figure it out first. Second advice, back-up your files!! The software has an auto-save 'feature' so if you delete something in your layout it is gone unless you backed up the file.

An outstanding controller and software hands down ! If you have basic understanding of using a computer you can watch the video and make amazing personalized custom light displays in less than an hour !Really is fantastic , superior to controllers with limited preprogrammed light effects

i like the idea but the instructions are not easy to comprehend. i had issues with the software installation also but finally was able to get the application to install. but once again, the software isnt very easy to figure out. i havent found a solid tutorial that explains how to use the software. there is a few videos but they didnt help me out very much.

This is not a plug and play as I knew befor I bought this controller. I did a lot of research before buying. I emailed the company befor I got the controller for the newest edition of led edit and they responded quickly with the download. Response from them with any questions is quick.I do wish there were some videos to help with the programming in English. The same with led edit. There are videos on YouTube of older versions just not good as a teaching aide to learn the program.The manual is kind of vague but with some understanding I was able to figure out how to set the programming and wiring for the ws2811 im using.To my surprise there are some preprogrammed effects on the controller. I’m just having issues playing effects that I saved from led edit on the sd card. Once I figure this out there are a lot of effects to use and customizable.Not a bad product at all. Well constructed. But like I said it is not a plug and play.

The first thing I have to say is: Wow! What customer service! I was having some issues getting text to fit on an 8x32 WS2812b panel, and I thought I was having trouble with it reading from a SD card. I emailed customer support late at night, and just over an hour later I had a very helpful response! I had additional questions, and again, Billy of the BTF-Lighting Team, very quickly responded to my emails! Regarding the software: There is now a new version, 2020-6.0 LedEdit! It was emailed to me. If you don't have it, just email customer support and they'll email you a copy. There has already been an update to version 6.5! This new version took care of the problems I was having with the text not fitting on a 8x32 array. Regarding the SD card problem, I ended up copying everything from the SD card that came with it, then I reformatted it (not quick format), and I've been using it ever since without any problems. It looks like the software and K-1000C are capable of much more than I realize, but it's going to take me a while to get more figured out. Overall, I'm happy with my purchase and thrilled with the customer support I've received from Billy!

This controller will only control 1024 pixels (leds) not the advertised ~1500 or 3000.

I'm a professional light artist and am currently moving from these controllers to Arduinos bc these things are garbage.To program, you have to know Chinese or memorize what to do from their horrible YouTube video. AND, your windows machine's date (windows only software) must be set to 2017 or earlier or the software doesn't work. AND, the only sdcards that will work are the ones that come with the controllers. I've tried all kinds and formatted precisely as instructed. One out of 2 of my controllers sdcards then stopped working. I've within them about this and they said they were going to send me more cards but I never got any. So this means that I'm relying on 1 sdcard to run my shows.... Forever. I'm scared to even touch the programming.Really wish these were better bc the alternative is a pretty complex system.

The media could not be loaded. I purchased this K1000-C controller to control 8 LED strips (a total of 1200 LED lights, WS2812B). You do need to go through the Youtube tutorial to learn how to use the basic features of the software. You can use the software to program standard 1D strips and 2D matrix panels. I created my own layout file .dxf and import it into the program. Customer service is very responsive and helpful. They sent me additional lighting effect files, and answered many of my questions along my project about the LED light connections and the controller. Eventually I built my LED tree with awesome effects!
