This is a sturdy all-around camp knife. This is not a lightweight knife so it might not be the best choice for a backpacking adventure. It came in a cardboard box with instructions. The sheath is made of leather with an attractive embossed design. It is made for wearing on a belt. It has a snap loop to contain the knife in the sheath securely. It is an attractive and well made sheath. The knife looks tough enough to take some abuse. It is a versatile design; I expect it will work well as a chef's knife, or to cut kindling / small branches, for protection, or for general hunting use. I selected it over other more specific use knives because I wanted a general use knife. I also like the price point. It looks to be an import from China. There are perhaps better knives, even in the Nedfoss product line, but this one seems like it is perfect for my needs. I expect that it will last many years. I am happy with the purchase.

Wow! Nice knife! I ordered the used/like new w/leather sheath for $33. And I’m very happy with my purchase. The handle/blade shape are reminiscent of an early AL Mar knife from the earth 80’s. And I’m a big fan of AL Mar knives. The sheath and knife fit are tight and the knife doesn’t rattle around similar to more expensive buck knives that I’ve disliked and subsequently ended up returning. The sheath is thick and stiff, just like I like, fits the knife very well. Stitching is nice and tight, no issues, with nice decorative tooling. Beautiful micarta handle, Solid purchase all the way around. Buy with confidence.

Quality is nice. Handle is comfortable and doesn’t have any hot spots. 8Cr steel rusts very hard and PVD is not necessary. Only 2 small cons: 1. Sheath. Very stiff material (not sure about real leather). Hole on the tip is absent and that’s mean that water will get there without any exiting and as the result you will get blade corrosion and mold inside. If you try to do this hole by yourself you will damage the stitches. Knife fixation loop looks flimsy. Try to find the different sheath. 2. PVD. It is not necessary for this steel and it looks very rough. So, I wish to see the version of the knife without any blade covering. In conclusion: very solid and comfortable knife. Sharpness is like a razor blade. Very good!!!!!!

This knife is quite simply my new favorite blade. It’s thick enough to be used in a variety of settings without worrying about breaking the blade. it’s sharp enough to cut most anything and just fits in one’s hands quite well. I couldn’t state whether it will retain its edge long-term but if the SHTF, this is the knife you would want. The sheath is heavy duty leather and almost as impressive as the knife itself. Anyone searching for a multipurpose, all around super-solid blade that doesn’t cost a fortune, I think this one will suit your needs without breaking the bank. All in all, for what it costs I am very, very impressed with it.

From the first one I received as a gift I've loved Ned Foss knives. Excellent design, quality materials & workmanship and a good edge on them right out of the box. I ordered the Black Phoenix with a leather sheath and am very pleased with it. Unlike many other knives I've gotten, the handle strap on this sheath does not interfere with drawing the knife. The blade arrived with an acceptable edge, though not nearly as sharp out of the box as other Ned Foss knives I've gotten. No problem: 30 seconds on my field sharpener and it was sharp enough to shave with. The structure of the blade is very similar to the "inverted I-beam" of some Kizlyar knives, which gives it added strength. This will make a great camp knife. The only drawback is the texturing of the scales on the handle. While comfortable in a regular grip, they were uncomfortable enough to be a distraction in a reverse (fighting) grip. On the whole, it's a very good knife and I'm very happy with it, but I'll make sure to keep a backup with me if I feel I might need a knife to use for defense.

A previous review had mentioned this, but it’s worth repeating. If Tops Wild Pig Hunter and Kizlyar Phoenix had a child, this would be it. It takes design cues from both. I put it thru its paces on various camping tasks, and it does quite well on the lighter items like slicing and creating feather sticks. It is not a full blown chopper, batoning or heavy duty bushcraft knife, and for the price you shouldn’t expect it. Split logs and you will damage the blade. Use it for what it’s intended for, for everything else it maintains a solid edge. Very good QC. The sheath may have longevity issues, the stitching may not hold up over time. I’m going to make a kydex one as I think that may be a long term fix. An excellent buy, I’ve already ordered a few more as gifts. You won’t be disappointed.

A very nice knife, but it needs a better sheath, you couldn't ask for a better blade and handle, fits great in the hand,and is very sharp. all it needs is a kydex sheath, to me this would be one of the better knives you could get your hands on. A sheath somewhat like the ones on the SRK, that hang lower than you belt line

Better than expected for the price quality similar to others at twice the price or more. Good leather Sheath holds knife firmly yet easy to access when you need it. Very sharp but will put a razor edge on it like the rest. Great for everyday carry, you never know when you might need it for a multitude of uses. Yes, I would recommend this knife for anyone looking for a quality Fixed Blade knife.

This is a great looking knife. The sheath is real leather and is nicely stitched. The full tang blade is very sharp. The price was very reasonable, for a knife of this quality.

Bei Ned Foss Messern macht man nichts falsch.Hatte schon andere zum beinahe selben Preis. Können nicht mit Preis-Leistung mithalten. Einfach gut.Die Messerscheide ist ebenfalls tiptop. Das Messer passt perfekt.Ist leicht zum raus nehmen,bzw.einschieben.Der Drucknopf funktioniert tadellos. Kann das Meser nur weiterempfehlen. Würde es wieder kaufen.

Das Messer ist Top. Der Preis ist echt günstig für das gebotene. Die Qualität lässt keine wünsche offen. Keine Spalte, alles passgenau. Macht einen äusserst hochwertigen Eindruck. Die Lederscheide ist optisch sehr schön. Das Leder selber aber nicht von hoher Qualität. Ich habs gleich mit Ledermilch getränkt, um es weicher zu machen. Würde das Messer jederzeit wieder kaufen.
