JUST ANOTHER UNDERRATED FILM DESERVING OF PRAISE AND ATTENTION
Thank goodness for independent films! They always save the day. I just wish they did get more recognition than they do. This is a fine film--sad (at times), tender, profound and heartfelt. It reminded me a lot of Kramer v. Kramer. Joaquin Phoenix, Gaby Hoffmann and Woody Norman are excellent. Beautiful black and white photography. Recommended.

Brilliant
There is absolutely nothing about this film that is less than 5-stars. SUCH a great film. Brilliant. Poignant. Joaquin Phoenix always delivers, and the young actor, Woody Norman was incredible, and to be so young, makes his performance that much stronger. I loved this film.

Easily one of the best films of the year!
Academy-Award nominee writer/director Mike Mills lands a strike with this incredibly simple yet visually striking and poignant tale of the gap between generations, learning how to take care of children, and ultimately the attempts to understand and love one another. Academy-Award winner Joaquin Phoenix and exceptionally talented newcomer Woody Norman create impeccable chemistry on screen as uncle and nephew as they journey to become closer in a world that is ever growing and learning as the years go on by. A truly beautiful and rich film that I won't soon forget.

Just a Beautiful Film
The story of a young boy and his uncle. So incredibly sweet and real and hopeful. Please watch it. I think that if you have two eyes, two ears and a heart, you will just love this film.

This doesn't gel. The conceits, editing, and script defeat the human story.
Clearly, many people liked this a lot. I am not one of them.

Best movie, great gift!
Saw this movie on a plane recently. Had to get it for my sisters as they are both teachers and they get it. Got the books too!

Black and White - BLACK 'N WHITE!
A black and white film, with Joaquin Phoenix, in which he is a radio journalist, interviewing kids about their thoughts and ideas about the future. Joaquin gets a call from his no longer talking sister, because she needs his help to look after her young son, the thing is Joaquin lives across the country, so he flies to Los Angeles to help her, she needs to go to another town to help the schizophrenic father of her son, who is having an episode.Joaquin Phoenix carries the movie despite the other people's poor acting. The story is film in several cities but still just not a good enough to make it in BLACK AND WHITE.I was disappointed with this film; very often the credits will come on in big white letters in the center of the screen (like the music in the background, or the book he is reading). It was like the director was just figuring what to do next.
