The book that changed my writing
This book is a compilation of different voices that don’t always agree on everything, but every article has something interesting to say. A perspective that feels fresh after the previous one. I love examples, but more than that each writer has their own voice in the body of each article.Out of the thirty articles I would say half a dozen really spoke to me in a way that was instantly transformative to my way of thinking. Very direct instructions and tools to create and hone a writing voice. Another fifteen, or so, gave more depth with associated exercises. The book has a lot of general writing advice to go along with the main topic of the book. This is one of those there’s-a-bit-something-for-everyone -books. One of the better craft books I have read.

A Perfect Guide to the Hardest Element of Writing to Teach
Voice is often considered this amorphous, quasi-mystical element of narrative. It's the Muse's whisper in your ear. It's the whole of the writer in words. "Either ya gots it or ya don't." Put that nonsense aside once and for all. This is a superb guide that addresses the mercurial aspect of voice from numerous angles, and manages to do in clear, practical, useful terms.I'm writing this review having just read Don Fry's Chapter 7: "Creating Your Own Voice." I'm a novelist, a writer, and a teacher. I am currently teaching an online course on character through Litreactor, and this week's lesson is on voice. But Fry's chapter opened my eyes to elements and techniques I had imperfectly understood before, and my mind continues to smolder with several dozen ideas I took away from it.I personally know several of the contributors, so take that into account, I suppose. But I'm not praising this book to pimp my pals. I'm praising it because it helped me understand more deeply, more precisely, and in greater detail something I thought I understood perfectly well, and clearly didn't.

Just get the book
Just get the book. There are so few books out there on this subject. Voice is such a hard thing to nail down for a myriad of reasons, and in this book it tackles more than you’d think possible. Each chapter is written by a different author or editor so you get multiple perspectives on what voice actually is, what makes a great voice, how to coax your writing voice out and how to improve it. Initially, I didn’t think I’d like the book, since I didn’t find the first few chapters useful (personally), but SO many of the other chapters were eye openers for me. The included exercises were a huge bonus. I truly felt this book is well worth the money.

Wonderful Range of approaches to a very difficult subject
I like the approach of many different writers talking about how to 'find your own voice' Different writers approach it from different angles such as tone, grammar and dialogue (of course) but some talk about the importance of setting also.

Great book for any writer
This book is well organized, clear, and concise. The array of writers that contributed bring necessary, and sometimes not often spoken about information. I found it super helpful and will be adding it to my on-desk collection of go-to writing craft reference books.
