A valuable read for the law enforcement sniper
This is a remarkable book that covers its specific topic of unconventional position shooting far better than any other I’ve read. Although it’s aimed directly at the “practical precision rifle” competitor, it has valuable information for anyone who might be required to shoot from field or other improvised positions. The law enforcement sniper in particular will benefit from the author’s detailed descriptions and explanations. Unlike the military sniper who can usually occupy his site of choice at leisure or the hunter who can simply pass up a shot that’s too difficult, the specific target and location may require the police sniper to set up quickly and be prepared to shoot from a highly limited position that’s far from ideal. Operations in rural areas or from inside buildings seldom allow shooting from the prone position that’s usually used in training or practice. As a bonus the book also discusses a subject I’ve never seen covered elsewhere: precision shooting through grass or brush. If the sniper can see the target, the target can see the sniper and shoot back. Light vegetation can greatly help the sniper remain concealed, and this book reports the surprising results of the author’s own investigation of what happens when shooting through such obstacles.
