Not recommended!

Doesn't work with linux
I've tried the device on three different machines with two different linux distributions, namely arch and OpenWrt. The kernel does recognize the device with the cdc_ncm driver, but the card doesn't work. It seems like it can send outgoing packets but doesn't receive most of the incoming packets. For example, I can see DHCP requests going out the card when I tcpdump on another machine, and I can see the replies going back, but the machine with this Ethernet dongle doesn't see the DHCP replies. Also, when I run "ethtool eth1" to look at the device, it doesn't seem to support any link modes.I thought I might have received a defective device, but then I tested on a Windows laptop. It installed a driver from the device itself (which must have pretended to be a mass storage device), and then was able to get on the network. So then I searched the amazon reviews, and found not one that mentioned linux. I therefore conclude that I probably don't have a defective device--it's just that this probably no longer works for linux.Note that Asus does distribute a driver, which is an old version of the realtek r8152 driver. However, that driver no longer compiles with a modern kernel. Moreover, the dongle seems to be recognized by cdc_ncm now instead of r8152.

Failed after 4 months
Barely was using it and it failed after 4 months of use. I rarely had my PC turned on so it was not in use that much and then just today it stopped working. Got it in January 2022. Got in touch with tech support and tried everything they suggested and then they issued me an RMA. Turns out YOU have to pay to ship the item back! The under warranty item that only worked 4 months. And the shipping for this usb ethernet adapter (for which I payed $29 for) starts at $30. What a joke! So I am supposed to pay to have another one of this (or my original repaired) and HOPE that it to does not fail in 4 months?! Never buying from ASUS again. Lost a customer here. Used to think they were the best quality and always would buy their products. What a let down.
