Simple, functional
I had one of these in high school and wanted to get one now in my retirement as a fun item. This one is good quality and works fine.

Smaller Than Expected
It was a little smaller than I expected. I have another wooden abacus, but it's a Chinese abacus not a Japanese abacus. I like the Japanese type better so I ordered this one. It is usable and well made, but it will some getting used to as it is small for my fingers. And the spaces between the beads are kind of narrow, so it's hard to see them sometimes. I have to be careful not to bump it with my fingers. But overall I am satisfied.

A great little abacus to learn on
This is a nice Japanese abacus (soroban) to learn on. It's got all the basic features you'd want and seems quite sturdy in its construction. It's made of lightweight plastic and would be no trouble to carry around in a backpack or purse.I've been using it alongside some of the many instructional videos I've found online and it's been fun to wrap my head around this system of calculation. I think any kid who is into math (and I know some) or Japanese culture would enjoy it.One consideration is it's size, which for my (medium sized) hands is a bit small. I can use it, but it feels cramped. It would be great for a younger student though.
