This is one of those tools that when you need it you need it. But it can also be used for many different purposes. Great all around tool.

This kit works great for fishing new electrical lines through walls or pipes. The magnets are strong and I've had no issue with losing the contact halfway through a pull. I would NOT advise trying to use this kit to directly pull your final wire through the way; it may not be strong enough to do that. Instead, just pull the string through your wall first and then use the string to pull your cabling through the run.My only complaint is the storage case. They provide a very nice tin box with custom foam insert for storing all the magnets but the spool of string is shipped outside of the box and cannot fit inside. I don't understand why they didn't structure the foam insert layout to also have storage space for the string spool.

I first saw a name brand version of this and it piqued my interest. I just installed some TV's in the kids room and wanted to run the wires through the wall. When I did the TV in our master bedroom I had used a fish tape and it took forever and was really awkward and clunky. When I did my kids TV's it made running the power cord and HDMI's a snap. The magnets are really super strong. There's more than enough line once so you can pull your cables through. What was cool was, my cables got hung up on something inside the wall. I was able to maneuver the cables around and get past it with no retries or issues. Great product and a great price.

I needed to get a 14/3 wire to an existing switch for a new 3-way I was setting up. The finished wall was insulated. I drilled a 3/4" hole in the top plate and a 3/4" hole in the side of the plastic switch box. I was able to use the included small "bait" (as they refer to it) and the magnet and pull the string from the top down to the switchbox and fish it out with needle-nosed pliers. I was then able to tie my 14/3 wire to the string and pull it into the box. No other solution would work short of punching a hole in the drywall. The magnet was plenty strong to pull the "bait" along next to the drywall, away from the insulation.I am sure there are stronger systems (mag-pulls) available but this one was priced right and worked well for my limited use needs.

I used this to pull wires through the wall to hide them for my surround sound system. It did a great job even with insulation in that area.
