Excellent product ~ Easily worth the cost
The Linksys SE1500 5-Port Fast Ethernet Switch offers great value for the money and can be used for a variety of purposes.Pros:Works exactly as advertisedSimple plug and play set-upCan be used on multiple devices and for a variety of purposesSpeeds up to 100 MbpsPower saving featureAutomatic speed optimizationAutomatic power down on unused portsCompact, low profile designExcellent value for the moneyCons:NoneWhen I went to visit my mother-in-law in Florida, I discovered that she had purchased a medical alert bracelet that required an Internet connection. The main unit for the medical device, required that the single Ethernet cable she had, be plugged into the back of the unit. Since I wanted to use my laptop computer, and there was no wireless connection available, I wasn't sure what to do. My brother-in-law, who lives in the same condo complex, let me use his computer to search for something on Amazon that would solve the problem. After searching for a while; I came across this Ethernet switch made by Lynksys and made the purchase.Setting it up couldn't have been easier. First I plugged the Ethernet switch into a wall outlet. Than, I removed the main Ethernet cable from the medical device and plugged it into port number one on the switch. Next, I plugged the medical device into port number two. Finally, I plugged my laptop into port number three. The only extra items that I had to purchase were two 6' Ethernet cables which I used for the medical device and my laptop computer. The entire set-up took less than 5 minutes and the results were exactly what I had hoped for. I'm able to use my laptop computer at the same time that my mother-in-law's medical device is in use. Linksys, which is known for making great products, has another winner here.

Excellent On The Wall
I bought the EG008W to replace a cheaper ASUS 8-port Gigabit which was erratic and unreliable straight out of the box. The Linksys, just like all my previous Linksys products has been great. I went to gigabit speed so that we can backup our PCs to a QNAP network attached storage box. When replacing my Linksys 100Meg Switch I wanted to prevent the drag that all those Cat 5 cables exert on the lightweight box. The tension of the cables always made the box sit askew and when the cats walked past it got knocked off onto the floor all the time. This Linksys switch casing has slots for wall mounting screws at the back. Initially I wanted to mount it with the cables coming up to the bottom so that they would not twist the box and disappear neatly downward behind my desks. However I soon realized that wouldn't work because Linksys want you to mount it with the air inflow slots at the bottom and the warm air outflow slots at the top. I didn't want the switch to overheat so I mounted it on the wall in the "official" orientation. This puts the cable sockets on the left, so for extra neatness and security I mounted a (plumbing or electrical) 2 inch U-bracket under my desk about 12 inches to the left of the switch on the wall. When I connect the Cat 6 cables I bring them from the left through the loose U bracket and into the switch. This arrangement gives the cables plenty of support so that they come into the side sockets neatly and without any drag. This is a perfect arrangement since it is stable (even when the cats walk past), neat looking and easy to get access to the cables for adjustments. I am very happy with this arrangement. If you need an 8 port switch you have a million wires all over the place and anything that keeps stuff tidy is a big benefit.Electronically the switch is flawless. It boots up almost instantly and has screaming speed. Even when doing a full backup from one computer to the NAS box, a different computer can still get online at fast speed. It hasn't much as hiccuped and has been perfect from the moment I unpacked it. And yes no fan it's totally silent.

Great product, feeble documentation, great support
Customer feedback I had read on the BEFSR41 indicated a very solid product that performs well and is easy to install following the instructions provided. I love the product, but my experience with the installation was different. I had no luck at all on my own (and I even read the product manual -- PDF only, btw, nothing on paper -- in advance). The installation program (run from the CD accompanying the router) was hopeless. It tells you to start by leaving the router out of the system altogether, and connect the computer to the internet directly via the modem, which I did. The program then checked the internet connection, and gave this report: "Your router is already connected to the internet, and nothing further needs to be done." How can this be? I wondered, my router isn't even connected. And when I did proceed to connect the router physically, the internet was inaccessible and the installation program would not work. So the installation program failed completely.Fortunately, a call to the LinkSys help desk solved the problem quickly and efficiently. My call was answered right away, and the technician (a charming and courteous young woman in India!) took me through a simple series of steps to complete the installation. (They involved connecting to the 192.168.1.1 web address and changing a few configuration settings.) It was laughably simple, and took only a few minutes.I mention this because I've read feedback on other LinkSys service encounters that gripe about the terrible customer support and especially about the foreign service technicians. My experience is just the opposite -- fast, friendly, efficient, courteous -- and no American support person could have improved on it.My question about LinkSys documentation is this: why can't they just write documentation as clear and simple as the help desk can provide? (I am no newbie, btw, having worked with computers and software for over 20 years. I've installed hardware and software on dozens of computers during that time, and I'm not intimidated by instructions for either kind of installation.)Bottom line: great product, great support, lousy documentation.

Good product. Missing information. Reliable company.
The only thing missing in the description is that, that switch, will need an adapter to work in US and Canada. See the item code and it ends with UK. So check the photo and you’ll see the kind of adapter that came with it. But after exchanging some emails, got a fair solution for the problem. Rare are companies that understand their mistake and provides Ty a good solution for the customer. I recommend RareWaves as a good supplier.
