My First Lens. No Autofocus, but I learned a lot.
Even though I would’ve loved for this lens to be autofocus for my Nikon d3400, I can’t knock the lens for me not realizing that autofocus wasn’t compatible with my camera. That was my mistake.Besides that, however, this was my first non-kit lens after buying my camera and I cannot say that I don’t love it. After having used it and gotten to really learn how to use manual mode (which is the ONLY mode this lens will work with on my camera) I am more thankful for the lens now than I was when I first bought it because I didn’t realize the full range of potential my photography had with this lens until I learned more about photography in general.I love how versatile this lens is and the bokeh affect that I can achieve with it. For a beginner I would definitely recommend this, just with a note of caution to be prepared to have a lot to learn before you can take amazing pictures with it. Always remember, it’s not the lens that makes the photographer, it’s what the photographer knows what to do with it.Anyways, hope this helped!! :)

Worth every penny for fun fun fun!
Get this lense and LEARN YOUR CAMERA! I got this lense for my D3400. Yes it's manual and that is what I wanted. If you REALLY want to learn photography and what you camera can do. Pop this lense on, go out with nothing else and start taking pictures. Do it in broad daylight and learn your camera. Since it's the only one you will have and it forces to you put you camera into 'M' manual mode then you'll have to learn a little bit about lighting and how to setup and use your camera. It's a blast. Just in a couple of hours with this attached to my camera and the only thing in my bag, I have learned so much! Worth every penny!

Nothing worked.
Would not work!!! ..Bought this 3, yes 3 times and never did it work. Tried inside, outside, manual, automatic, didn't make a difference. Description was that it was compatible with my NIKON, but it was wrong. Double checked with known lens and camera worked great. Whatever it was, it was not a good lens for me.

A classic that every Nikon owner with a compatible camera should own.
First off need to know: this uses the older screw-linkage autofocus and will not focus on many recent Nikon SLRs including the D40/60, D3000 and D5000 series, and possibly other budget series I may be missing. It only works on the “prosumer” and pro cameras like the D90, D7000 series, and the three-digit numbered bodies. If you have a compatible camera, the autofocus on this lens is still slower than on the AF-S lenses. But this lens is half the price.50mm is “normal” on a full-frame (FX) camera. On the smaller sensor cameras that are more common, this is a short telephoto lens, why used to be called a “portrait” lens. And it’s absolutely excellent for that. The field of view is a little too narrow for most everyday shooting, so you wouldn’t want this as your walkabout lens on a DX camera, but it’s good for portraits of people and animals. Great in low light. Great bokeh/defocus. This is the lens phone makers are trying to imitate with “portrait mode” on the new phones, but the real deal does a much better job. This lens is often recommended as the first prime (non-zoom) lens to buy. Not always, I say. For most DX bodies, a 35mm is a more useful prime, and most beginners don’t have a compatible camera for this lens anyway. On most consumer cameras this becomes a manual focus lens and there’s no real advantage to that. If you don’t know exactly why you want this lens, get the 35/1.8S instead. Yes it’s almost twice the price, but it’s absolutely worth it. But if you want a lens for portraits that blow away anything you can do on a smartphone, and either have a compatible camera or are okay with manual focus, get this lens.

Wow...Renewed by Amazon looks like new!
Nikon 50mm 1.8D auto focus lens looks like new. Appears clear of mold or spots inside. Just arrived yesterday & works perfect so far. Arrived on time in original Nikon box, packing & paperwork. A little stiff to attach to camera (Nikon D750), but is fine. Great purchase. Thank you Amazon.

Good lens to challenge your artistic vision
I basically obtained this lens just to challenge my eye. The lens is nice and fast and had no issues, the price was right and have no buyers regret. This was more for my own quest of framing a shot with just one lens without breaking the bank
