As the title indicates this book is about the life and stories of First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt, with a particular focus on her leadership abilities. As the author states in his introduction: "Eleanor Roosevelt holds an unassailable place as the most respected and well-known woman of the last century. As stated by the author: "If there are essential threads that can be pulled from Eleanor's story of leadership, they are her adherence to her values, her keen assessment of people's needs, and her ability to motivate those around her to take responsibility and work for change."What sets this book apart is the structure, the selection of supporting biographical elements and the summary of the key lessons at the end of each chapter. I was required to purchase a leadership biography/autobiography for a graduate level class in leadership and motivation. I wasn't looking for the same old politico autobiography or the middle-aged white man who ran a business. This book provides a fantastic look at women in a leadership role. Gerber makes the book particularly poignant because she weaves the stories of contemporary leaders into the book as well. I wanted to take something away from this book and was initially concerned that, because of her status, I couldn't use any of Eleanor's leadership tactics. The opposite proved to be true because of Gerber's excellent ability to break down Eleanor's achievements into understandable, relevant pieces.

I bought this book for a class on Women in Leadership. I'm half-way through it and can't put it down! I love the way the author helps the reader see ways to develop better leadership skills from things done in the past. Eleanor was an extremely interesting person and personality who overcame great odds to become the #1 female leader of the 20th century. It is well written, an engaging, entertaining, and insightful read.

I have always admired Eleanor Roosevelt and am surprised I had not run across this book already. A friend recommended it and boy, was she ever honed in on just what I needed to read. This book is great for anyone who wants a positive shot in the keister!

I was very impressed with the kind of leader Eleanor Roosevelt was. I found the book facinating and a great read.

Robin Gerber has written a wonderful book on leadership qualities using Eleanor Roosevelt as her role model. I have given several copies to my granddaughters and other young women to help inspire them to greatness.

Just what my leadership study group is looking for. Easy read. Interesting. Educational. Contents help promote an interesting and lively discussion.

This was quite interesting when they spoke about Eleanor Roosevelt, however, the writer was apparently trying to make this a "self help" book by giving instructions on how to be a woman leader! I really just wanted to hear about Mrs. Roosevelt.
