This Calico Critters BBQ Picnic set is fantastic for children who love to play through story-telling. It provides enough high quality, detail-oriented accessories to support an entire roleplaying scenario for kids, while still leaving enough for personal imagination. One of the highlights of the Calico Critters sets is that the characters come with a story which is told on the side of the box. It begins with a setting and the characters but then leaves it up to the child to continue through play.The furniture, character and accessories are a fantastic addition to a growing Calico Critters collection, but also are a great starting gift for anyone who has not yet had a Calico Critter. The characters and their playsets are very high quality and hold up through years of play, with the option of storing for the future as well. These are the types of characters and sets that I would have adored as a child and therefore greatly enjoy collecting for my daughter. We both enjoy playing together with these sets; they are a great size for younger (age 4+) hands to work on their fine motor skills but also are fun for older children and adults to be able to re-create a real-life scenario. Since they are a smaller size, collecting them do not take up too much room and storing them doubles as a display when not in use.I would definitely recommend this set. It has the same quality and craftmanship as other Calico Critters sets and presents beautifully as a gift. The little details are incredible; from the personalized dress on the elephant character to the BBQ picnic foods. The colors are realistic and the character is made from the soft, flocked material that all other characters have.

Calico Critters really knows how to make great, cute toys. These are no exception. Incredible attention to detail - especially in the clothing. The mirror is a nice touch and the different assortment of accessories is nice. Excellent CC set and we'd definitely recommend this one.

My older daughters loved little playsets like Polly Pockets. Their younger sister (age 7) also likes them, but in an attempt to differentiate herself wants something with an animal theme. I have seen Calico Critters before, but this is our first set. I wasn't sure how popular it would be.This set has one character, a cute elephant with short fuzz on it (I think they call that flocked?) My daughter loves the way that it feels and will rub it on her cheek and pet her. The little accessories are adorable and well made. They have a solid feel to them and should withstand some serious play.There is no storage container so this isn't really a good travel toy. Also would have been nice to have two characters for those of us that are just sticking our toes into the Calico pool . . . of course, that just encourages her to want more.

The box arrived a little dented, so wouldn’t be ideal for collectors, but the product itself was undamaged. A child would absolutely need help getting all the pieces out, as about a million twist ties were used to secure everything. The bonus of this is that nothing was rattling around in the box. The pieces themselves are absolutely adorable, and surprisingly well painted considering their size. The chairs fold down, but I can't figure out how to fold the table up, as I am afraid the force will snap it. It feels well made, so i assume that this is just user error. The grill can be closed while “food” is on/in it, although the latch doesn’t click fully (can be useful when trying not to not loose the tiny pieces). The burger/sandwich fillings can be squished into the bun taco style and stay in place quite well. Additional characters pictured are from the Goat Family.

This playlet includes an elephant doll in a fancy dress, a BBQ grill, picnic table and chairs, grill tools, meat, fish, vegetables, and other food, and a set of bright dishes that look like Fiesta ware. The furniture folds up neatly.It's part of the Calico Critters range and the picture shows the little elephant having a BBQ with other animal friends. It's a great addition to the dollhouse my grandchildren play with.I like playlets that connect with daily life more than with TV shows. That way, children can imagine their own adventures and exercise their creativity as well as having fun.
