I do not have an atmos avr and am running klipsh towers, center and sub, would these speakers work for standard surround speakers at 8 feet high?

They are not meant to mount “high” and I think you’ll be disappointed in my opinion. They are meant to set on top of your towers for very little background noise especially if your receiver isn’t Atmos compatible. I got in my attic and installed 2 towards the front and two towards the back behind me in the ceiling and you talk about a banging surround sound!!!! Better than the theater. Polk-Audio-RC80i-Pair-8-2-Way-In-Ceiling-Speakers.

If these were mounted on the rear wall at the recommended height as atmos speakers (not surround) would it still give the same atmos experience?

Yes. Google Dolby Atmos and you will find all the details on speaker locations and configurations from Dolby Labs.

I currently have klipsch rf-82 fronts. will these work well on top of those?

Yes you can, they will just need a separate speaker connection from your receiver to the Atmos speakers. To sound it’s best as an Atmos speaker the seating area should be around 10-14 feet from the tower speakers and the ceiling height less than 12ft.

Can i buy 4 of these and use two for surround position and 2 on top of my r26f? i won't be using r 14 s than. i am using marantz sr5011.

Technically, yes. According to Klipsch website, they can be used for surround and/atmos.
