Forerunner 55 - Smartwatch Grey

My old Garmin Forerunner 35 gave up the ghost last week - the plastic case just shattered so there was nothing to screw the strap to… it had survived quite a few years of abuse though. I ordered the nearest equivalent I could find and the Forerunner 55 showed up. To start with I didn’t like the display, but after watching a YouTube video I was able to change it to an analogue looking face, which is perfect. The Garmin software I already has for the 35 switched over to the new watch more or less automatically and the data capture was seamless. I’m happy with this, the only fault is that the strap is a but short (but I have pretty big wrists). A regular 20mm strap will fit so I’ll probably get another that looks nice in the fullness of time.

Really like this watch, it's simple & straightforward but with enough data bits & pieces to keep someone like me more than happy (I run around 40km-ish a week and like to track dog walks too). This is actually the second one I bought for my son, had my other one for over a year and no problems, good battery life too.

Great watch easy to use. And has a great battery life

Refund issued no problem…..very flimsy and for a Garmin looks very cheap….maybe go for a more expensive one

decent watch

Looks good and works perfectly. This is a replacement to one I lost a few months ago and they are excellent.

This is a Garmin product, so it's good quality. It'll last a good while. This one has a heart rate monitor on it (just by wearing the watch, not by bands that go around your chest). It tells me all the basic running stuff I need (pace, distance, time). It tells me heart rate for each mile (or Km), and overall VO2 Max. It also counts steps. When you are finished your run it will summarise the distance and pace. My previous Garmin's (all simpler) would also tell me my pace per mile for each mile straight away. On this watch you have to go into your run and get it to show you what they are. What I don't get is how they thought a black face with grey hands and numbers was easy to see. There is no way of making the fonts white, which would probably solve this issue. I find it really difficult to see the steps, the date and the heart rate (all displayed, all the time on the face of the "watch"). In certain light the time is difficult to see too (the black/transparent watch hands are outlined in grey). It's also difficult to see the steps, date or heart rate when the hands are over certain numbers. There are different faces available to download from the store, but none of them appealed to me or looked like they would be much better. None of them were a nice simple face with obvious bold white numbers on a black surface, or any nice contrasting colour of face and numbers (even black numbers on a white face). So it records everything well, but displaying things is a little bit clunky.

I will recommend this product, good battery life and has all the functions required from an entry level Smartwach.
