A One Kit Portable Monster
Coming from a “natural light” background in photography and not having much experience with off camera flash besides say a hot shoe mounted bounce flash, I was a little intimidated with the Elinchrom One. However upon testing and using the flash over the course of a week, I became very comfortable with it. Paired with the Rotolight (optimized by Elinchrom to work with my Sony) made usage very streamlined. Took away those intimidating feelings I had in the beginning.Upon first glance of the Elinchrom One unboxing I like the clean look of the packaging. Not littered with too many descriptions or instructions all over it. Also has some inspirational quotes as you get down to the product itself. The Elinchrom comes with a great hard-ish shell carrying case which is awesome for an on-the-go portable flash (I’ll touch more on that fact in a bit), USB-C charging cable, wall adapter with adapters for other countries (which to me is an added thoughtful plus), a rubber sleeve attachment for soft boxes or other flash accessories, and a flash head cover that can act as a soft light filter. The design of the Elinchrom is elegant and modern. The first thing I noticed is the sleek and smooth frame complimented with the Elinchrom emblem on both sides that also acts as a status light for multiple purposes (also touch more on that in a bit). The mount it comes attached with also has an umbrella or light attachment slot directly underneath it which is awesome. Easy to use and attach with the umbrellas I currently own. Looking at the back of the unit I instantly loved the simple button setup and full touch screen interface. On a lot of flashes I've seen there are a lot of buttons or dials that can seem intimidating or that you might accidentally touch or turn a dial the wrong way when packing the flash away or moving it for quick access and losing your settings. The touch screen is a nice modern way to get around that and responds smoothly. The next feature I looked into is it's portability (touching on what I mentioned up above) is the fact that it charges with USB-C. Of course the latest USB charging technology is always nice to have and no proprietary charging adapters needed. The thing I LOVE the MOST though is that you can actually charge and use the Elinchrom with a portable charger. Anything 10,000MAH and above will get you a decent charge with this unit, how cool is that? Truly makes this unit a portable monster and not leaving you looking for a wall to plug into or the inverter on your car to charge it when you're out and about.Into the nitty gritty. Mentioning what I touched on above again, the lit up emblem on the sides of the Elinchrom being a status light. The light can show you a few features being 4 different color flash groups you can have set up from a Teal-ish/Blue, Yellow, Red, and Green. I think that's a huge help when quickly looking over at the Elinchrom to make sure your group is on the correct mode and it looks mighty cool doing it at the same time. When its plugged in and charging it'll light up as well to indicate charging status. The Elinchrom can produce light consistently and you can change the color temperature as well to see how it'll affect your scene before you start clicking away. Very helpful when deciding on a tone for your particular shot and it also helps to light up your subject in dimly lit situations where your camera may have trouble focusing on your subject. The Elinchrom has H.S.S. (high speed sync). Which is a plus over the standard hot shoe mounted bounce flashes I've been using. Being able to freeze action with higher shutter speeds is an advantage I've never played around with before and is opening my photography up to new heights.Overall like I said before, intimidating at first with any new piece of equipment, but the Elinchrom One makes off camera flash streamlined and in a beautiful modern fashion. Writing this review to help anyone with my experience thus far and if you're thinking about making the jump/purchase. Don't think, do it!

Good things come in small packages..
I've been on the hunt for a small but powerful lighting solution for a while.. this one lives up! I used to shoot with the Profoto Pro-7b ages ago, and while I've missed the output, I haven't missed the bulk (and sore back) one bit.. I knew that I had to find something this time around that was compact, easily portable, and powerful enough to get me through any wedding or portrait setting. Enter the Elinchrom One.I was skeptical about how powerful this little nugget would be, but I was super pleased to see that the difference between this and it's prime competitors with regard to power was pretty minimal. I agonized between buying this or the B10, and I'm so happy with the choice I made (not to mention it's at a way better price point). This thing is awesome for indoor use and got the job done in a wedding reception setting way better than I anticipated. I still use it primarily outdoors/on location, and I did find it's not necessarily going to overpower a bright high noon sun (fine for me personally and not what I expected out of it) but had plenty of power for any circumstance I found myself in. The best thing about this for me is the ease of transport.. this thing fits in my existing camera bag (although the case it comes with is absolutely not offensive looking, which is also nice) and is light enough to hand hold. Overall, this thing gets.the.job.done.beautifully.With all that said, I'm a sucker for the little details, and there is a lot of icing on the cake that initially led me to choose this flash but have since made this thing an absolute staple for me..- Battery life (I've grinded this thing for hours and still didn't kill a whole charge)- USB charging (this is EVERYTHING! To have such vast options for charging on the fly is far more convenient than you think you'll even care about, until you have it at your fingertips)- Frosted dome (seriously, solid diffusion right out of the bag, I actually use it often without any modifier which I was entirely surprised by)- Touch screen (it's responsive and such a nice modern feature)- Modeling lamp (You can setup a shortcut to kick this sucker on with just a touch)- It's pretty (I know this seems silly, but it's nice when gear is modern and sleek without unnecessary clunk)- Bluetooth (not only for the app, but to update the firmware from your computer which is super convenient)Overall, solid purchase I would absolutely recommend to any other photographer looking for lightweight and effective!

Small But Powerful
When I first heard about the Elinchrom One I had some concerns. I put it through its paces though, and this light exceeded my expectations.I was worried about the output power, but the 131 Watt Seconds is just the amount of power it uses, not the output power. Comparing it against some other lights in the same category I found that I was only looking at a 1-1.5 stop difference which was fine for how I shoot.I **LOVE** the USB-C charging capabilities. It’s so fast - I can break for lunch and come back to a fully charged unit. And I feel comfortable knowing I can charge it almost anywhere. Definitely has a permanent home in my camera bag.I like that Elinchrom included an adapter so that I can use not only OCF modifiers, but also Elinchrom light shapers.
