Pretty Good
Most of the information at the beginning on this book is for new rat owners. I bought this book to help highlight some important information for myself and anyone who is asking me for help or guidance. I disagree with some information given in here such as to introduce your rats you should keep them at a friends house for two weeks. This would put more stress on a rat, he or she needs to get use to their new home and owners. Not use to a temporary home and owners to just be moved again and introduced to an unfamiliar rat. Also I didn't like how she advised to put perfume on the rat to hide their scenes and make them smell alike. The chemicals in the perfume can be harmful when a rat grooms itself. These are just two major examples of what I feel was wrongly put by her, as I don't feel like going into each wrong point and detail is necessary. This book is for basic information you should still go out and research rats before you buy just to make sure that you have more than just one example of what to do. I really liked how she explained health problems and certain treatments to help treat the rat. Overall not a bad buy for a little basic knowledge and some fun play tips!

9 year old approved.
This was a great introductory book for my 9 year old into the world of Rats and becoming a potential owner of one. It has great details, nice photos, and a variety of topics are covered. It made for an easy read for him.

Good book, but doesn't cover everything.
Good book for brands of cages, foods, different types of bedding, and more. It even has tips and a "breeding guide" at the end. I really enjoyed the book and found it very helpful for a pet rat. Although, I wish the book offered more about training the rats. I'm interested in that for sure! Awesome guide for if the rat(s) is/are your first pet. Apparently the author wrote another book about rats and maybe it has more info about (my interest) training. This book is joyful and worth reading! :-)Please note: This review is written by a 10 year old

Not in depth what-so-ever, so just know what you're buying
Beautiful book, so well designed. My only critique is there really isn't much information in here. I could've picked this up at a bookstore and gotten literally all the information out of it that I needed in one quick sitting... so, I'm not sure I'd buy it again knowing this. But it's a very well-done book, good graphics, the info that it does have is good.

Great for first time owners
This was a good introductory book for potential new rat owners or those considering rat ownership (like us). A few topics were a bit outdated, but we did find that a lot of websites used quotes from this book and referenced it. Everyone in our family was able to read it and understand it prior to adopting our girls. Very useful tool.

Good for beginners.
Gives really good advice on rats. I was a little bummed that most of the stuff was what I already knew, but I would definitly reccommend it to first-time rat owners.

A must read for rat owners!
We adopted 2 male rats about 3 months ago. We wanted to learn the best ways to take care of our boys but found a lot of conflicting suggestions on the internet. I had heard of Debbie Ducommum on several forums so when I saw that she had books available I was so relieved and purchased this one right away. We have learned so much from this book already! I am so thankful that I found this here on Amazon!

The Rat Owner's Bible
My rat bible! This book is invaluable for a new rat owner. I couldn't have given my rats such great lives without it. The book is brilliant for ideas for entertaining rats, and for things like common illnesses and medications. It also explains social behaviour of rats, which is vital for their well being and having a bond with your rat.The only thing it lacks is a more extensive list of what not to feed, and more complicated health issues, but they can be found online. It does not claim to be a comprehensive rat guide. My rats also enjoyed chewing the pages! One of the best buys I've ever made.

Three Stars
It's a decent book. Was hoping for more though, didn't really need to know the history of wild rats.
