One of our favorite Native American story books
This is one of our favorite Native American story books. It's a beautiful story that brings in so many great elements of the Native American culture ... including the importance of the community... and also a female lawyer character! Great for your personal library or a gift!

It Takes a Village
Young Jenna looks forward to the day she can join the tradition of jingle dancing -- a tradition shared by women in her family for generations. She dreams of having her own regalia with singing jingles, but lacks time to order jingles before the next powwow. What to do? Jenna learns the power of family pulling together; each sharing their own, unique piece of wisdom, love and encouragement. Drawing strength from her community, Jenna spreads the healing power of the jingle dance.

Great story!
I got this book because I like, if possible, to have a variety of books from a variety of views for my nieces to read. A book about a Native American girl *living today* (it's so easy for young children to get the impression that Native Americans either are all dead, or are about as real as witches and ghosts, because all they ever hear about them is in the past), written by somebody who probably knows what she's talking about? I had to try it.The story is fairly simple - a girl wants to dance, and she finds a way to do so by getting other people to share with her. (And she works hard, too, practicing all through the last few pages!) It's a good story, and I love the artwork.

One of our Favorite Bedtime Books. The Words Sing Like the Bells in This Delightful Story.
The rhythm of the words takes the reader firmly into the world of dance and the drum.Beautiful pictures and thoughtful interactions illustrate the community of accomplished women this young woman is stepping into, without ever being heavy-handed about it.A terrific way to introduce young readers to dance regalia and other aspects of Native culture, and to remind those who have been to a gathering of the Tribes what the experience is all about.

Glad to Have Found This Book
Was excited to find a book about the jingle dancers for my very young granddaughter. Her other grandmother, who is Native American, will be making her a jingle dress when she gets old enough to learn the dance. This book will help introduce her to one of the facets of her culture.

Love This Book
I bought this book as a Birthday gift. I was pleasantly surprised when I opened the package. The book is larger than I expected. The illustrations are lovely and I like the Glossary at the end. I plan on pairing this Book with a pair of Jingle earrings for the Birthday Girls Mom. Just in time for Pow Wow season!

For Every Jingle Dancer & those who wish to dance.....
My grandaughter danced in her first powwow last year. She is only two and is in love with this book! As I read to her she reaches for her own new Jingle dress her mother made for her. This book is a must have for all the Jingle Dancers! The Jingle Dance is a wonderful heritage belonging to Native Americans and this story is how one contemporary young girl finds the "jingles" for her dress as she reaches out to family and community. Simply beautiful.

horrible grammar
This is a sweet book, but the wording and grammar is horrible. Some of the sentences don't even make sense.
