This is a really nice product.
I was hesitant to buy this, but it has been a great help.Suggestions for Use:1. I first go over the work I'm doing with a corded dremel.2. Once that is complete I go back over the work with this engraver. The work I am doing is pretty precise and difficult because it is a soft plastic. This makes it temperamental when in contact with heat. E.G. a corded dremel creates bubbles in the plastic if I am not very careful. With this tool an as accessory I can go back over that work and smooth out such issues.I see some complaints saying it "scratches" rather than engraves. I wouldn't say that's exactly the case. It does take a little bit longer to do the engraving and it certainly eats batteries. However, that's not exactly unexpected. More cordless things have a terrible battery life. It still more than does the job.Use this for precision work where you intend for a softer touch and it will work great. If you're going to do a more sustained engraving at high power I'd still say pick this up as a "finishing touches" accessory. Very surprised by it's quality. Much more well made than I was expected.

Gets the job done for engraving tools
This seems like a delicate tool to be engraving hard tools, but it gets the job done if you handle it carefully. On the 2 aaa batteries that it came with I engraved over 100 tools ranging from sockets to hammers to pry bars and other such tools that are difficult to write initials on with a sharpie. It took a half a day of patiently and carefully scratching the initials in with this engraver, but it got the job done. Came with a spare bit too, but found no need to use it yet. When the batteries lost their power it was obvious that it was losing rpms to work as quickly as I would have liked, so I replaced the batteries and engraved another 20 tools. The engraver is easy to use and did disappoint on even one tool I needed engraved. Though the engraving is not very deep, it is sufficient if you just make several passes for each line you wish to make to make it stand out more. Don’t press hard and take your time and the results will be satisfactory.

Served its temporary purpose
I bought this less than a year ago to sign the bottom of the glasswork that I create. As a glassblower having one of these is a must if you ever want to leave your mark on the work without using a stamp while still molten. It worked if i was signing a piece or two, but if i needed to sign multiple items in one sitting the motor would bog down and sometimes just stop after third or fourth piece. I'd have to wait to let it "cool down" before being able to use again. For how cheap it was it did ok, I have finally gotten a Dremel 3000 w/FlexShaft since then and the pen has been replaced. I can use it to sign, engrave, and maybe cameo if I want. This is not a comparison between the pen and the Dremel but if you are to go this way I recommend getting a pen like this that has a cord, yes it limits you to an outlet but at least it'll do what you need without bogging down and shutting off.

eats batteries
I love the fact that it has a button you hold down to keep it turned on, that means I can easily take a break in between each letter, however I could see this being a negative for someone who is trying to draw a design rather than write words.I was about to get about 160 words (some of which were 1 letter long) before the two batteries died on me. Ultimately this is the reason I opted to get a different pen, it would just go through batteries too fast. This could be improved with USB charging. The bits it came with turned out to be the best I could find for writing, and are the reason I am not sending the pen back. The other pen I bought came with much longer bits that didn't bite quite as deep as these ones. These shorter bits allowed my hand to get closer to the mettle for more precise writing.

Not worth the cost
Bought to use to mark keys and stopped working after doing only around 40 soft metal keys.I am sure the issue is in the On button because it took more pressure than such a small device should to take to operate (button required to be held down to operate by design)

Beautiful look
I tried it on silver rings and earrings to give them texture. They look beautiful!

Inexpensive engraver does what I need it to do
I had a few items I wanted to mark for my household inventory in case of theft and ordered this engraver. I tried it out on some test items first to get better at handling it. The marks are deep and straight enough to read easily which is the point if I ever have to turn in a theft report to the police - I stand a better chance of retrieving my items with personal engraving on them. Nice little engraver for the price.
