Pretty heart breaking story
Pretty heart breaking story. Was definitely a page turner. I think I read the whole thing in less than a week. You can tell it was written by someone who was illiterate most her life.

Absolute must-read and an eye-opening book
This true story is an eye-opening account of the horrific reality of women in Islamic societies where cruelty and brutality against women is the norm. "Honor killings" are a fact. For anyone who is aware of how these societies function, this book won't be a total surprise but still the daily brutality and slavery that women live under in these oppressive societies is beyond belief. A tale of cruelty and barbarity that everyone must read to become aware of the world we live in. I highly recommend it.

Captivating
This book is about a woman who survives an attempted honor killing after she has gotten pregnant by a neighbor. the neighbor professes his love for her, impregnates her and then, leaves her to deal with the consequences. she discusses village traditions which mandate that she be killed for premarital sex. She is also quite honest about her difficulties after moving to Switzerland. What makes this book a wonderful read is that she does not portray herself as "cured" after replanting herself in Switzerland. she discusses the psychological challenges that await her, as she tries to make a new family and also connect her old one, as her child from the improper union was adopted by another family . My only problem with the book is that Souad seems quite eager to adopt western traditions, morals and actions. I wonder if this is a product of translation.

This book is one of the best I have read about women in the Middle East
This book is one of the best I have read about women in the Middle East. My heart breaks for her due to the fact she was born in a place where little girls are useless. I am an American woman, I had a wonderful childhood. It is so sad these little girls dont know what is like to run and play. She had to tend to animals that were more important than she was. She wanted to be loved so badly that it nearly killed her when her MOTHER had her burned. She had a horrible recovery but she did make it and become a loved wife and mother. I suggest this book to all women of any culture. Read her story and thank God you were born in a country that allowed you to learn to read. She did not have that given to her, still her knowledge of the world is so very limited. Read her book learn to have some feelings for those that are not as lucky was we are here or what every country your in that lets you buy books.

„Suad am lebendigen Leib“ ist die Geschichte einer Palästinenserin, die von den schweren Erlebnissen in ihrem Leben erzählt. Sie beschreibt, wie sie Gewalt und Misshandlungen erfahren hat und wie sie versucht, sich trotz allem ein besseres Leben aufzubauen. Das Buch zeigt ihren starken Überlebenswillen und ihre Suche nach Freiheit.
