Q: Are the stripes horizontal or vertical?

I used mine horizontally, but the fabric is wide enough and depending on how many yard lengths you had, I think it could be used either way. Great fabric, very sturdy without feeling like canvas, easy to work with. Hope this helps.

Q: What is the size of the stripes

The stripes are 1/2" in width. Anna, Likes 'n' Wants

Q: does the red bleed into the dye when machine washed?

If fabric is polyester it shouldn't bleed. Cotton however can bleed into white. I suggest you test the fabric. The colors red,blue,black & green on cotton can bleed. Test before you use.
