Q: Is this the international version or the Chinese version?

It's an international version. Read this carefully - When you first get the device and you power it, it will show "Chinese" system default. But you need to download Mi-Fi App and setup Mi-Fi account. Once you are done with the Mi-Fi Account, connect the Xiaomi Mi Smart Band 6 with your smartphone by turning the "Bluetooth on". Xioami Mi Smart Band 6 should show up as "Smart MI 6 band" or something similar. Connect with that Smart Band with your iphone or smart phone (using bluetooth). Then it will sync and automatically change the setting into the country's official language specified. (Ex: Korean for Korea, Spanish for Spain).

Q: Does this work with Google Fit?

I can't find any way to connect this MI 6 band to google fit. There is no option to add google fit at all. The only connected app I see as an option in the MI app is strava. I'm returning this band, and finding something that is android wear compatible.

Q: Can you turn off the display?

no. the watch is always on. it's the display that comes on with a touch of a finger and then goes off.

Q: Does this item require a smartphone?

Pretty much. While the band can be used on its own to track exercises and heart rate, etc., I believe it needs to be Bluetooth paired with a smartphone or tablet for setup. Also, the Mi app adds a lot of functionality as far as analysis.
