Well written, addresses questions
I just completed Reiki I and got this book per my teacher's recommendation. I like it a lot so far. I like how the author presents what goes on in a typical Reiki I class. Descriptions and photos of the hand positions are clear. I also appreciate how the author clarifies some of the history of Reiki. I had read descriptions in the past that read like a bad translation from another language or era and quite honestly, it sounded peculiar. But Rowland presents the history clearly and well, which was important to me since I had some reservations about taking a class. (Previous writings described the founder of Reiki as attempting to heal as Christ did, which as a Christian, made me feel very uncomfortable. I read that this was done by a Reiki teacher who was presenting the technique post WWII, when anti-Japanese feeling was rampant and she was trying to make it more acceptable. So I was relieved to see that Reiki practitioners really aren't pretending to have Christ's power. I did take the Reiki I class based on my trust and esteem of the instructor.) The author also addressed common questions, many of which I had. So I have a very favorable impression thus far and look forward to reading more. I would definitely recommend getting this book.

an outstanding guide to reiki
"The Complete Book of traditional Reiki" is true to the history of Reiki, and bridges to the challenges of our modern time. Amy Rowland notes, "what Reiki does provide is a direct, profound experience of the healing power of Spirit-guided life-force energy." This book is about healing oneself, others, and hopefully collectively the world. Lofty ideals. But its style is easy to read, and it makes what are often complex and mystical concepts simple and approachable. Amy Rowland is consistently respectful to historical Reiki, not by deification as sometimes mistakenly occurs, but by as accurately and intellectualy honestly placing founder Mikao Usui, and Sensei Hawayo Takata, in context of the personal struggles they faced. This honesty makes Reiki more human, more accessible, and more relevant to us. We are imperfect people in an imperfect world, often needing method to face a day with compassion rather than anger, and hope rather than with despair. As a Hospice physician, I appreciate that Amy Rowland's book is healing not only in its approach to human suffering, but in its approach to respecting and bridging conventional and complementary healthcare. It is healing as well, in its inclusiveness and respect of all lineages of Reiki. Whether a beginner wanting to know something about Reiki, or for a practitioner experienced in Reiki, the author's approach brings elegance and clarity to Reiki.

Overview of Reiki
This book has a nice overview, that is detailed yet simple enough to grasp the information. If you are a reiki master or someone considering becoming one, you should read this book!

Excellent and Best Reiki Text
I read this book a couple of times, and it is extremely easy to read and it is also very understandable. I already have the book and will now get the kindle edition so I can refer to it when I am not home. Not only is it good for students, but it is also great for Reiki masters to know how to explain the ideas in a very clear manner to their students. I keep going back to this book and I think it is the best reiki book out there.
