I bought this for my wood chisels but now I use it for my knives as well
I have a set of Kakuri Damascus wood chisels that I use weekly. I typically use waterstones for sharpening my cutlery but with chisels, I use aluminum oxide stones because it's way too easy to gouge a waterstone stone with a narrow chisel blade even when I'm being really careful.Aluminum oxide stones work OK but I've accidentally broken a couple of aluminum oxide finish stones in my shop recently, so I needed a tougher alternative.I gave this Ultra Sharp steel/diamond stone try for finish sharpening on my chisels and it worked great for my chisels, even the narrow profile chisels. I tried this Ultra Sharp on my Glestain kitchen knives for quick tune-ups and it worked superbly.I still prefer waterstones but they need 20-30 minutes to soak before use so for fast touch ups in the kitchen, this Ultra Sharp is my new "go to" stone. Hope that helps! The photo shows the Ultra Sharp in a stone holder (not included with the knife).

Essential item for sharpening
This should be the first sharpening stone to be purchased. I got the 1200 and 3000 grits. Once your sharpening skills have improved to the point you are comfortable, you can try using Japanese water stones as they are more delicate and require greater care in use and handling. Use with lubrication ! - I use a light mineral, food safe oil and the results are very good. Needs a little time to break in so resist the urge to use it on expensive knives etc until it breaks in. Otherwise you may end up with large scratches on a superb finish. Once broken in, it does well. Finish with water stones in higher grits to get a superb finish.

Works very well once broken in
Great product, only complaint is that the manufacturer does not do the break-in. It took me about 20 minutes to feel like I got the surface ready to create a good edge. It does cut fast!

Recently added this 3000 grit to my 300/600/1000 set I have been using
I have been using the same brand diamond stones in the 300/600/1000 grit three stone set and when I discovered this 3000 grit version I just had to purchase it. Very satisfied.
