Reliable HDD with useful software, a must have!
I purchased and received the WD 1TB Black My Passport Portable External Hard Drive - USB 3.0 - WDBYNN0010BBK-WESN directly from amazon, and I've had no problems overall. My first impression was that this product's size is great, seems well built and worked great out of the box with no issues whatsoever. I still have to test the transfer speeds, so I wont talk about that until then.Pros• Well packed• Pocket size• USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 compatible• Error testing, formatting and configuration with included WD Drive Utilities™ software• Password protection with hardware encryption with included WD Security™ software• Auto backup with included WD Backup™ software• Built by Western Digital, a well trusted and reliable companyCons• Warranty being 2 years• No Linux softwareComes with• WD My Passport HDD• USB 3.0 Type A to Micro-B cable• WD Security™, WD Drive Utilities™ and WD Backup™ software for Windows and Mac• Quick installation guide

Great quality, worked perfectly. Not SSD.
This portable HDD drive worked exactly as we needed it to. Great for backing up a computer or transferring files. I bought a new computer and needed to transfer all my photos and documents from the old to the new, and this served the purpose perfectly. It will also be used to keep another computer backed up. Happy with it stationary storage, but I will be getting an SSD for portable storage because it is more durable and can handle being dropped better than this HDD drive will be able to. An SSD is also three times the cost for the same size, so this old-school drive, though slower, was worth it. And it wasn't slow, per se. I didn't feel like I was waiting around forever for it to finish. Just slower than an SSD would be.

Used on a PS4
As the title says, used for my PS4 (and had to give up a precious USB port). It was super simple to use, plug in, let PS4 format and boom you are set. It seems to have NO problem running with the console, and I see no delay in it pulling info, or writing info onto it. The black color and slight pattern makes it look almost like a mini PS which I find cute (yah I am a nerd like that). Totally recommend for someone needing more console space that doens't want to open their unit and just wants an add on.

Drive is pretty good, warranty service is just okay.
*EDIT* After a little over a year, I had a partition on this drive fail. WD provides no software or first party support of any kind in terms of data recovery. Luckily I know my way around a computer pretty well and was able to recover my data myself, the average user however will probably have to shell out some money in the case that this happens to them. Also while WD is providing me with a new drive as a replacement, I am having to pay for shipping, which I find to be a little ridiculous. This entire process has been a headache and while I've purchased two new drives to use as backups, I am reluctant to buy from WD again. Taking a star off because of all of this.*ORIGINAL*This hard drive functions perfectly. It's very light weight and has a very small footprint. By default it comes formatted for Windows (NTFS I believe) and reformatting it to work with my MacBook was a bit challenging, but that was more due to macOS than this drive. Needless to say, after formatting, this drive now functions flawlessly and I use it for Time Machine backups regularly. The only downfall I've found is that it seems like LED in the back won't completely turn off of the drive is connected to power, even if the computer is off. In my case, this was evident due to the fact that I have it connected to a powered USB hub, so even when my computer is off, the drive still receives power. This however is solved by just unplugging the drive when not in use so it really is just a minor issue, if even one at all.I will definitely go with Western Digital for my next external hard drive purchase

Fantastic Customer Support
In my recent review of a Canon printer, I mentioned how easy it was to install. I also alluded to the fact that helpful product support is not always possible to get. I falsely assumed that the Passport would be relatively easy to set up, but remember I'm a senior citizen with very limited technical knowledge. So you might guess by now that I had to call customer support to get the Passport to work properly. The person that helped me was fantastic. He took over my computer and download all the setup files that were needed in order for the device to work properly. He was extremely patient and helpful and had things working properly in about 15 minutes. So, theoretically, it should have been easy to get the Passport installed and working properly. I can honestly say that I would not have been able to do that without the help of the rep. Thanks Western Digital for having such helpful reps.

Excellent external solution at a great price - great for traveling or simple backup solutions
I haven't done any benchmarks on this but it has much faster access speeds over wireless than our very old WD 3.5 inch external drive. It's very a nice, compact design and very quiet. Just plug it in and go. I have it connected to our Netgear router and shared as both a Windows share and Apple Time Machine backup location, which works great so far. Only drawback is the cable length - it's really short so if you want to hook it up permanently and stash it somewhere out of site you might need to invest in a longer one.

Nice Cheap External Drive
I just got this because it was a cheap external drive with a lot of capacity. It did come pre-installed with WD backup software that may be useful if that's what you bought this for, but I personally had no need. I hooked this up, formatted it, and used it to create images of my two drives for backup purposes using Macrium Reflect. Didn't take super long to do despite the size of my drives, so this guy seems to be pretty speedy at least. Don't otherwise really have anything to complain about.
