Q: What works and what doesn't with the square shape of this brush?

The square shape is the only one I like since I can have more styling options with it. It offers a slight wave or additional curl as you blow dry, depending on how tight you curl the brush around the hair. You can also dry the hair straight by pulling the hair out straight as you dry and not "curl" the brush tight. So the looser the turn, the straighter the hair.

Q: Is 1 1/2 the diameter or the circumference of the brush?

Diameter. I have short hair and use this brush every day, and love it.

Q: How the heck do I get that pin out I would like to use it but can't get it to move out,help please!!!!!!!

It is in tight but you should be able to pull it out with slow steady pressure
