The Crochet Book: Over 130 techniques and stitches

I am very excited about this book. I was very new to crochet, and not very confident, but I've had this book for 2 months and made gloves, slippers, a little bag/phone holder, and flower keyrings! It has thorough instructions for all the basic stitches, shaping and textures translations between uk and us names, explanations of different yarn weights, hook sizes and what difference they make and plenty of projects to practice on. I like that it doesn't just talk you through specific projects, or a specific brand, each project has a recommended yarn, but also explains what else can work so you can flex it to what you want, or can get hold of. I imagine when I start a pattern that's not from this book I'll keep using it for reference, but it's been fantastic to build my confidence and answer all my questions, from what to use to how to care for my new homemade things :-) If I knew anyone who wanted to learn crochet I'd 100% recommend or give them this book (and a cheap set of hooks)

I find you can't good wrong with DK books. This book has simplified instructions on how to learn to crochet and I am determined I will overcome and master this skill. I like knitting, but from time to time, I do come across crochet patterns which are just amazing, which I drool over and wish I could make.This book has projects to make as you progress along and shows you how to read crochet patterns and other required techniques are explained with clear instructions. The photos are in colour throughout and make learning the craft easy to understand.Would recommend.

My New Year's resolution was to learn how to crotchet. Tried videos online, but could not follow the patterns. This book has taught me through step by step pictures and instructions. Working my way through the projects. Each one builds on prior knowledge. There are so many stitches in the book, granny squares, scarves, hats. I have made all these so far. Love the book. I can't believe I can now crotchet. Been wanting to learn for years. Only worked through 20% book so far so got so much more to learn. Really enjoying learning.

I bought this book because I wanted to learn how to crochet,I’ve been putting it off for years so I finally decided to learn, this book is really helpful and by using pictures step by step it ensures that you are heading in the right direction. I’ve only been crocheting for 1 week and I’ve already learnt several different patterns. This book is a must for anyone wanting to learn a new skill. I thought at 50 I wouldn’t be able to learn a new skill but this book makes it possible and I’m so glad I purchased it.

This book does not go deeply into any one thing, but covers an unusually broad number of applicationd and techniques. For the absolute beginner, this book gives unusually clear images and diagrams for how to do basic stitches and the most common permutations on those basic stitches. There is a good coverage of yarn weights and how to read a crochet diagram. It also covers many types of embellishments and techniques that are not touched on in the usual "how to start crochet". I strongly recommend this book to anyone just starting this craft. It will give you a good foundation and enough tools to create a wide variety of projects.As an ebook, this is disappointing. The pages are images of the print book pages and are not formated for an ebook reader. The pages are reasonably clear to read, but have to be zoomed in and out to be read. It can be bookmarked but cannot be keyword searched. The only upside for the ebook format is containing the comprehensive overview for a dirt cheap price. As an emergency reference, $1.99 isn't too bad.

I just started to read this book, it looks like the author explains everything in detail and the illustrations are extremely very beneficial. At first I was struggling to hold the yarn. The book showed me for example two different ways of holding the yarn. I found it helpful because the book offers charts, graphs and step by step instructions too. There are two versions the US and UK, before you purchase ask the seller.
