Not without its problems, but the best book you'll probably ever find about this band.
Having been a fan for 30+ years, I couldn't put it down. The author touches on what a mystery the band was in the 80s. No information or photos in the albums besides song titles, and with Hairway to Steven you didn't even get that! To have this book feels like an abundance of riches compared to the days when you pored over Double Live insert to piece together whatever little bits of information you could find in the press clippings.

Sidney Poitier was a blind man...
Been a fan since 1988, when I was 14, When I got my guitar in 1990 I learned how to play it (not in the traditional sense) from listening to their albums. I have always been mystified by them, could never find any info on them. So when I saw this book came out I knew I just had to have it. While reading their chapter in "Our Band Could Be Your Life" I was lost in another world. So far this book is having the same effect.

... (small amount for some I know) this book is great. The book is well researched
For someone who got to see the Surfers about a dozen times (small amount for some I know) this book is great. The book is well researched, has killer photos and is the result of a LOT of work. Buy it, throw on "Double Live", and visions of "Ta Da" will dance in your head!

Blind icees awe
Excellent book aside from a few grammatical errors mentioned by others. Still worth the read. A must for any serious fan and fun for the casual listener.

Needs another pass by the editor. Entertaining, though.
As published, "Let's Go To Hell" still feels like a rough draft. Too bad, because there's a good book in here somewhere. It's written in a biographical narrative style with frequent quotes and anecdotes from key players. That's great, but there are too many examples of the narrative relating a specific event, then being followed by a quote that reiterates the very same event, almost verbatim. Page layout tends to be haphazard, as well. In my opinion, the margins are too narrow (the type runs too close to the spine), which makes the book difficult to read without practically laying it out flat. Also, for some reason, chunks of empty white space occur at random throughout, the void sometimes taking up the majority of a page. Minor typos and misspellings pop up frequently, too, damn it.It's not a total dud, though. Fans of the Butties will find much to enjoy here, because it goes without saying that the band's history has a s***-ton of built-in entertainment value. Also, the included discography is exhaustive and totally essential. It's unfortunate, then, that "Let's Go To Hell" often tends to feel half-baked (or at least like a work in progress), because it's obvious that a LOT of love and effort went into putting it all together.

A real treasure despite all the distracting typos
We're lucky to have this book at all. Finally, the band's story is told, in detail, with plenty of pictures.Unfortunately, the writing isn't great. There are typos and grammatical mistakes on nearly every page. The sheer number of typos makes them rather distracting. Furthermore, some simple edits to improve the cohesiveness of the writing would have made a big difference. Clearly the author spent a great deal of time researching the book; it's really a shame that a little more time wasn't spent on editing. One more pass at proofreading and editing to remove all the typos and improve the punctuation - this alone would have taken this from a good book to a great book.Having said that, this book is still a real treat for all the fans out there who've been itching to know more about the band and their adventures on and off the stage.
