Are you supposed to place a number of photos in each plastic envelope. Won't moisture accumulate then?

You should always store photos in a cool dry place away from direct sunlight to avoid damage or fading or damage, no storage box is going to change that. You can also purchase dessicant packs to add to the box to absorb any moisture in the air. You will need to replace them periodically depending on the humidity of your space.

Has anyone actually put 1600 pictures in here? I’m just curious how heavy it must be? Can the case withhold that?

I can assure you, it will hold 1600 PLUS pictures! I've filled each of the 16 containers so full I could barely close them PLUS laid over-sized pictures on top of them! Yes, it's VERY heavy and I'm careful when lifting it so that I don't break the handle. I LOVE THESE STORAGE CASES...and the colors are great too!!!

Several of the interior containers won’t latch. How can I get replacements for those?

Agree! I love the container, but the clasp needs to be improved.
