High quality waffle iron
I was reluctant to purchase this because I don't love the thickness of "Belgian" waffles. I am super happy with this waffle iron. It is heavy duty, heavy weight, and seems very well constructed. The waffles are not super thick like classic Belgian waffles. I love the fact that the grates are removable and dishwasher safe. It is extremely easy to use and clean. It is on the large size. We found that one waffle (4 squares) was plenty for two of us. It comes with recipes and ideas for waffles.

Great Waffle Iron!
My son wanted a waffle iron for Christmas so I went researching options. I have three, each producing one large waffle at a time, because when I entertain a group one waffle at a time (@ 7 min. each) is not sufficient. I found this waffle iron and was so impressed I put it on my wish list as well. When I purchased it, the iron cost just under $56; I notice it is now selling for over $100 -- watch for lower prices! Update December 27, 2019. STILL love this waffle iron! It makes great waffles. I use a higher setting because we like them a little crispy. Also, the irons pop out and can be washed in the dishwasher, which is a HUGE benefit. I still have my old single-waffle irons to add to my Krups when I'm cooking for a crowd; they are a bear to clean; the irons don't pop out and it is very time consuming to wipe clean with a sponge and paper towels. LOVE my Krups! I made my first batch this morning and am very pleased! A few things: 1. I wiped down and then seasoned the iron as instructed. 2. I sprayed the iron with Pam before the first batch. With my other waffle irons I usually only need to spray before the first batch and then not again for the duration of cooking. However, with this iron, the second batch stuck -- not horrendously so (I was able to pull them off, but they tore a little). So I sprayed the iron before cooking each subsequent batch and it worked well. 3. The instructions say to close the lid, but they don't specify whether to close all the way to where it locks down. For my other waffle irons I gently lowered the lid (didn't squish it all the way shut), so I was afraid to lock down this lid. However halfway through the baking of the first batch I realized I needed to shut it all the way (instructions should specify this). 4. I started on setting "3" (medium) and the waffles were not crisp enough so I left them in another minute or so. The next batch I cooked on "4" and still wasn't satisfied with the crisp factor. The rest I cooked on "5" and loved the results! 5. Make sure you don't put more than 1/2 cup of batter in each section. It takes approximately 7 minutes to cook each batch. 6. I LOVE that the iron plates are removable for easy cleaning! This is definitely not the case on my old waffle irons. Love, love, love this feature! A single recipe of my Belgian waffles made 7 large round waffles in my other irons. When I cook for a group I always make a double batch. The double batch recipe made 24 waffles in this iron. Make a ton and freeze them in large Zip Loc freezer bags, separating layers with waxed paper. Just toast them right out of the freezer (don't microwave them!). My recipe for Belgian waffles (it's the bomb!). This recipe makes 12 waffles (3 batches of 4). Figure on 2 - 3 waffles per person; make a double batch for a large crowd. 2 cups light sour cream 2 lg. egg yolks (save whites!) 1 cup low fat milk 5 tbl. butter, melted, slightly cooled 4 tsp. sugar 2 tsp. baking powder 1 tsp. salt 1/2 tsp. baking soda 2 cups bread flour 3 egg whites (dump the last yolk) 1. Combine all ingredients except bread flour and egg whites in a large mixing bowl and stir to combine. 2. Stir in the bread flour, just until flour is moistened (don't try to remove every lump). 3. Beat 3 egg whites until stiff and gently fold into batter. 5. Spray top and bottom of Belgian waffle iron with Pam and heat. When the iron is ready, spoon in ½ cup of batter, and close and lock the lid. When iron indicates waffle is done, remove and repeat.

Best waffle maker out there.
Works great, real easy to use, waffle are very good. The controls for how brown/done you want works great. The grids that pop out are super easy to clean, by hand or dishwasher. Very happy we bought this one. highly recommend.

Decent waffles and easy to clean
I bought the Krups waffle iron to replace a Villaware waffle iron that I've had for more than 20 years. I have to say that my old waffle iron made superior waffles -- very fast, and the waffles were crisp and well browned. Lately, however, I've had an issue with the heating elements that caused the top to be almost burnt while the bottom was still very pale, and the plates on my old iron were not removeable for cleaning, so time for a replacement. I selected the Krups Waffle Iron for 3 reasons: 1. Removable plates 2. Relatively low cost and 3. Reasonably positive reviews. Made my first batch of waffles this morning. The Krups waffle iron is somewhat slow to heat up compared to my old iron -- took about 8 or 9 minutes to reach temperature at a setting of 5 (max), but that's okay -- I just start heating it up while I do other stuff like make coffee and finish final mixing of my waffle batter. Regarding the quality of the waffle, even on the highest setting (5), the waffles come out sort of light medium brown, and were not as crisp as the ones from my old iron. I only made enough batter for one round of waffles. In the future, if you want crisp, well browned waffles, I recommend leaving the waffles in the iron past the time when the alarm sounds until there is little or no steam coming out, even on the max setting. Finally, clean up was a breeze with the removable plates -- I am really happy with this. Plates are easy to remove and reinstall. Some reviews mentioned that the handle gets hot -- the handle remained cool to the touch, however I only made one round, and it's possible that if you make many waffles, the handle could get somewhat hot due to escaping steam. The alarm that sounds when the waffles are ready is loud, but not excessively so (my old one was much louder as are our smoke detectors), but I think that is a highly individual opinion. My husband can't hear it in the next room, but I can hear it on the other side of the house! All in all, it's a good product and worth the price.

Awesome - KRUPS 4-Slice Belgian Waffle Maker
Purchased for a large brunch for 20 people. It worked out great! It made 4 regular size waffles (not mini) ahead of ppl arriving and kept them warm in oven. Used oil spray between each batch of waffles, they didn't stick. Clean up was nice & easy! Machine fits nice upright, on it's side in a cupboard (a bit larger then a metal lunchbox or cigar box). A few of our guests (that also entertain or have family gatherings) asked where I purchesed so they could get one.

Cheap "metal" holding it together
You know, I selected Krup's because I thought it was a quality brand. I'm giving the waffle iron only two stars because of the durability of it. It works great actually and there are no complaints there and I love the removable plates feature. Of course that makes it perfect for cleaning. My problem is, after a brief time of owning this item; I went to place it on the counter and my finger accidently hit the latch that opens it and hit the countertop. All things considered, this was NOT a hard hit, and the right tab broke! Tab meaning where the top attaches and allows for it to open and close. And it can't be repaired by crazy glue and tried JB Weld epoxy glue and although it says it's good for metal, the heat caused it to just melt. The waffle iron works, yes; but it's a PITA to have to make sure it's leaning up against something while the batter is poured. UGH!! These companies and their cheap materials. So disappointing. AND now I put krup's in the POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE category. Took a chance and called to see if they would do anything about this issue. Rep told me she would have honored the 2 year warranty if I hadn't tried to glue it! What?! What does that have to do with the cheap materials this thing is made of. It was not dropped! How cheap is a product made when it flings open and taps a counter causes the damn thing to break?! It would make more sense to me if this happened multiple times... it was once! For that reason; krup's sucks.

Love this waffle maker!
Really enjoy using this waffle maker. I love that the plates are removable so that you can wash them. So much easier than my previous model. I also like that it beeps to let you know when it has heated to the right temperature so you know when to pour in the batter. It also beeps to let you know when the waffle is finished cooking. It has a knob to adjust depending on how brown you want them. No negatives on this one.

Incredibly impressed!
WOW! That’s the best word I can use to describe this waffle maker. The day it arrived, I got it out of the box and turned the dial up as far as it would go and just let it burn off for about 20 minutes to get the initial non-stick coating smell burnt off. That night, I prepared my sourdough waffle batter and let sit all night. The next morning, I turned the machine on and got to work. READ THIS IF YOU WANT TO FREEZE AND POP INTO TOASTER LATER: I honestly have never made waffles before, but read a review saying that setting 3 is best for waffles that you’ll be freezing and popping into a toaster. So glad I found that review, because the advice was spot on! Perfectly fluffy waffles on setting 3! They don’t have any crisp to them, which is perfect if you’re going to be freezing and reheating in the toaster. CLEANUP (NO COOKING SPRAY NEEDED!): Cleanup was zero. All the pictures I’m sharing are what the machine looked like directly after removing the last batch of waffles. No spray necessary! The trick to it not sticking is to allow it to fully come to temperature before dumping your batter in AND allowing it to come back to temperature once the waffles are cooked (don’t lift the lid to “peek!”). The green light will turn on and 3 loud beeps will sound to indicate that 1) the waffle maker is to temp and 2) Your waffles are ready. Trust the beep! AMOUNT OF BATTER: I make sourdough waffles, and my batter isn’t crazy thick (see photos). I have found that ever so slightly less than a half cup fills each space just fine with very little to no overflow as it cooks. ADDRESSING COMPLAINTS: Some reviewers mentioned the handle getting hot…this was definitely NOT the case for me. The machine would accumulate condensation around the front from the steam, but it never made the handle feel at all hot. Secondly, my plates seem to be staying in place just fine. The top one jiggles around a little as you lift and lower the lid, but it’s not falling out. The buttons used to remove the plates seem to work just fine. LONGEVITY: Unfortunately, I can’t yet speak to its longevity, but I sure do hope it lasts me a good long while, because this machine is incredible and beautiful. It offers all the options I wanted (sturdy design, easily stored, multiple Belgian waffles at a time, removable plates, beep to indicate when done). I couldn’t have asked for a better waffle maker. Well worth the investment!
