The Wump World: A Picture Book About the Wumps and the Invading Pollutians for Children (Ages 4-7) Paperback – Illustrated, April 27, 1981

This book has been a great addition to our library. I enjoyed this as a child, and now I’m passing it on. My four-year-old son loves to read Bill Peet books, and he enjoys the spaceships and machines in this one. It’s also teaching him good lessons about caring for the environment, thinking of others, and caring about how one’s action affect the future. I highly recommend this one.

I loved my mom read this book to me as a kid and now my children love to hear me read it to them. This is an children's classic about saving the environmentA great story and of course wonderful Bill Peet illustrations. My kids and I also enjoyed Bill Peet's Farewell to Shady Glade. My children ages 3 and 5 enjoy listening to me read it over and over although my 10 year old also liked reading it by herself. I enjoy this book much more than The Lorax by Dr. Seuss which is a bit more confussing for young children but still a classic.The Wump world is optimistic not scary. Cute harmless blue creatures called Wumps get scared off the surface of their plannet by the arrival of "the Pollutians" who are a race of humanoid aliens who polute every planet they live on..."The Wump World by Bill Peet (1970) is a children's book about imaginary creatures, known as Wumps. These Wumps look somewhat like a cross between a capybara (sometimes called a water hog) and a moose. The story about these Wumps takes place on their own planet, hence the name The Wump World. A race of blue humanoids named the Pollutians overruns the Wump World, causing the Wumps to flee to the safety of underground caves. The Pollutians build great cities and colonise, dirtying the air, water, and plowing down greenery. The Pollutians reach trouble when the air becomes too polluted, and their leaders send scouts to search for another planet. One scout returns, claiming that he has found a bigger and better world; upon hearing this news the entire Pollutian populace leaves the planet, leaving their ruined cities. When the world above grows quiet, the Wumps emerge to find a changed world, a deserted "concrete jungle". I loved this book that I read to my children when they were young. I'd been unable to find it when I wanted to read it to my grandchildren. I feel it is more pertinent now than when written 50 years ago. When I found it on Amazon books, I ordered a paperback for my grandson and the hardcover for our town library. It's a great book to read to one child or a group of children then talk about how they can care for their earth and the animals that live here.

This explains what the world is like today. My kids loved it and has a copy that he reads often to others

I first got this book years ago for my daughters because of my concern for the environment. This is such a simple and sweet story of the grass eating wumps whose world is invaded by the humans who appear one day as smoky, flame throwing space ships. The humans, the Pollutants, start building and destroying the environment immediately , fouling the air, dirtying the water and covering the land with cement. The Wumps are forced to move underground to caves. Finally, when they have destroyed everything, the Pollutants depart. The Wumps venture out eventually and see one little plant growing out of a crack in the cement. A story of our time, right? Bill Peet wrote for Disney years ago and had the early vision to see what was coming. I bought another copy of the book, not for a particular child, but because I wanted to have a copy in my library.

I grew up loving this story having found it in my elementary school library.[It's simple and to the point!]Be appreciative, be thankful, don't waste.Generation after generation will love this story.I shared it with my children.I'm soon to share it with my grandchildren!

This book and ".....Shady Glade" by Bill Peet are both important tales that teach about the importance of Wildlife & nature conservation. Both lovely stories with great illustrations which are very welcome additions to a child's personal library. This copy arrived in fair used condition.

Inspiration for the Wall-E screenplay? Idk, at least in part, though I doubt they’ll give credit.Great book for kids 4 to 8.

This was my favourite book as a child. I can't wait to read it to my little girl. It Came in perfect condition.

I have fond and vivid childhood memories of this book and it’s illustrations. This book definitely impacted my view of the environment and littering. It’s about the negative impacts of pollution, carelessness and destruction to the environment. But it has a hopeful ending.If you want to teach your kids to care about the environment it sends a pretty strong message I think.
