ETA hand2mind Base Ten Blocks, Yellow Plastic Rods, Set of 50 Love these high quality sturdy blocks! They are versatile and a must have for every math classroom. They can be used to concretely demonstrate so much more than place value, such as regrouping in addition/subtraction, multiplication/division, and algebraic concepts. My only complaint is that I wish they were available in the "Smart Pack" for colors in addition to blue.

Sturdy enough. Took a point off for "thickness," because these are hollow. While that isn't a huge deal for many lesson plans, I discovered when testing that a 10-rod is almost exactly half the weight of ten unit blocks. This is a big problem for investigation based plans using balance scales. For kinesthetic learners (for whom these are some of the best tools) you can't compare equality based on a balance pan scale. Further, seven on these weigh about the same (slightly less) than a 100 flat. The compound components of the set need to weigh the same as their component parts.
