Excellent reference book
I enjoy re-weaving and caning chairs and repairing wicker furniture. Sometimes I need a bit of advice and this book is terrific for that purpose. There are many photographs and illustrations that help the reader understand each step. This is a comprehensive guide that covers many types of caning -- actual weaving, press-cane, seagrass rush weaving, and wicker work.

Good instructional text.
For someone like me who is just getting in to caning, this appears to be just the right type of instruction. 60% textbook 40% general instruction. Looking forward to using it.

I read this book. I need to order some supplies and tools to try to cane a rocking chair seat.

Very good, but not perfect
I picked this up when tackling a new caning project (I knew nothing about caning when I started). My project involves re-caning 8 (yes EIGHT) Marcel Breuer Cesca chairs. I've finished three seats, and am on number four. The book is probably the best thing out there (based on reviews) but in the process of caning I've learned ten or fifteen smart things that should have been in the book but aren't. I can't really fault the book, but makes me think I'll write my own book soon. Anyway, if you're starting from scratch and learning this ancient craft, I think you'd better get this book, and you WILL benefit from it. Just understand that there is a lot you'll just need to pick up as you go---like any craft---and I wish maybe Miller had put a few more details in. Anyway, highly recommended.

Great little book, low cost, and very useful!
This book does not cost toooo much, and yet, it provides excellent pictures, diagrams and drawing to help a nwby figure out how to do this and do it well! If you anticipate doing any caning, then I recommend this little book to you without reservation! Enjoy!

The condition of the book was as advertised
The book was in excellent condition and I think it had been used very little, if at all. Also, it arrived much sooner than I expected. A great purchase!

Great book for beginners
I was refurbishing some old dining room chairs that had cane backs. The backs were dirty and needed to be replaced, which I had never done before. The book gave step by step directions on how to recane the chair. The finished product looked great. I recommend this book. It is very informative on all types of caning and wicker.

Chair Caner's Handbook by Widess
This book is a must for anyone interested in understanding various seat weaving techniques. Great photos & information. I took mine apart & slid each page into a plastic sleeve that fits a 3 ring binder. Book lays flat & pages don't get dirty. After 20 years of caning I still refer to it for specialty problems & in teaching newbies to the craft.

Helpful, clear and readable book
This is a really wonderful book. Just in reading the first few pages I have learnt things that would probably have meant I didn't need to re-cane the seat if I known them earlier. It's very clear and detailed; you could follow either the text or the illustrations; he shows pictures of common mistakes so you know what not to do. It's also well-written so I found myself reading bits of the crafts I don't even want to know. I really feel this writer will be my friend while I do the job.
