Mostly spey and switch fly fishing book!
Not what I expected of this book. Well written in details but mostly for Spey and Switch fly fishing steelhead. Not sure why the book wasn't name with some indication that it is not regular fly fishing book. Also mostly just text, very very detailed almost overkill but I guess it is very helpful down the road as this is definitely a book for advanced fishing. I wish they put some pictures of how flies are tied not just flies they use, then fly fishing techniques in images step by step like in lots of other fly fishing books. This one just shows pictures of people with fish and people casting. In all this is just a reading book and you picture it how things look like.

Book is geared towards anglers with some experience already vs. beginners
Good tips for new and experienced steelheaders that are still learning (including me) with emphasis on spey and switch rods vs. traditional single handed fly rod. . Discussions on spey techniques, including casting with photos, fly line weights, sink tip vs. floating lines, for different conditions one will encounter on the water, most helpful. Would prefer more diagrams of leaders, rigging, etc. that author discussed vs. several of the color photos of fish that, while interesting, didn't seem to relate to the text. Color photos of the various steelhead flies and how to tie them will assist fly tiers as well.

Steelhead how-to
This book serves as a follow-up and updating of an earlier book which the author co-wrote with his brother. There is much emphasis here on spey fishing techniques including casting both spey and switch rods. There is also a rather extensive section of full page color photos of steelhead flies along with recipes for tying them. The book is profusely illustrated.

Very helpful
I truly feel like a much better fisherman after reading this book. Only being highly involved in fly fishing for steelhead in western ny for 2 years, this book really connected the dots on tons of bits of information that I've taken in. It's in depth detail about many things like lines leaders and tips and casting to simplifying fly selection and many other important parts of the trade really helped me understand exactly how and more importantly why I should do things certain ways. For the last year I have spent hours reading material in magazines and online almost everyday( yaa so what if I'm a little obsessed) about fly fishing and tying and picking the brains of my local fly shop owners. The problem I was finding was that too much of the info was bits and pieces and repetitive. I wasn't totally sure that a lot of the info was even intended for my neck of the woods. But now after reading this book written specifically for my region with guys like Pionessa and Tobias endorsing it, I know for sure it's for my creeks and rivers and I can refer to it for any questions I may ever have about steelheading on the fly. All I can say is cheers to Mr Kustich and his help on the construction of what I now refer to as my steelfly bible!! 110% satisfied with the depth and quality of all the info and how it was presented. Lots of people say "presentation is everything" right?

Not just for the "Advanced"
A very clear guide for how to pursue steelhead. Although it bills itself as "advanced", I found it to have lots of basic information for a steelhead novice such as myself. It covers all the bases, from gear to casting to techniques to flies. It even has a pretty comprehensive guide to where to find steelhead in the Great Lakes Region. I feel the chapters on "Techniques" and "Strategy" could be better integrated. But all in all, a well-organized and thorough guide.

Good book for Erie and Michigan
Good book with a lot of info. I fish Superior and it is a little light on info for that fishery so I docked one star.

Another Great Steelhead Book
This is another Fantastic Book by Rick Kustich. His first book was great and this one shows you the most advanced ways to improve your steelhead fishing. This is another tool that belongs in every serious steelheaders library.

This book is much better at explaining steelhead fishing techniques than his first book ...
This book is much better at explaining steelhead fishing techniques than his first book written with his brother. Books with lots of pictures are much better in book form than in Kindle.

Lohnt sich sehr.
Wer schon mal an den Great Lakes zum Steelheadfischen war, hätte sich das Buch gewünscht. Wirklich klasse. Guter Überblick über die Ausrüstung und Taktiken.
