Product description USED Playstation 2 NHL Face Off 2001* BRAND OR SYSTEM = Playstation 2* CONDITION = Good Condition: USED* GAME AGE RATING = E - Everyone* GAME INCLUDES = Game, Case & Manual* AVAILABILITY = In Stock* SHIPS WITHIN = 1-2 DaysITEM ID: 148725CATEGORY: Playstation .com Though this game looks like nothing more than a souped-up version of its PS One cousin--there's very little that separates the visuals in this game from the previous PlayStation versions--NHL FaceOff 2001 does reliably score in most other categories. The game has all of the usual bells and whistles associated with a big-time interactive hockey simulation, as well as a few new ones such as the puck halo, which makes the puck easier to see when it's in the corners or in front of the net. Gamers can take to the ice against a team of all-time hockey legends, including Gordie Howe, Bobby Hull, Phil Esposito, and Marcel Dionne. They can also draft and build their own teams from scratch. For those new to the series, FaceOff's all-new practice mode allows you to get a feel for the game in all aspects, including passing, checking, and scoring, before going up against any one of the NHL's 30 different teams. To make up for the game's disappointing graphics, 989 made the gameplay blazingly fast, and its smooth animation is one area where the game surpasses its PlayStation cousin. The sounds of the game, like players' skates cutting through the ice as they stride toward the net or turn quickly to cut off another player, are perfectly represented. Even crowd noises above the action and hard hits against the boards are perfectly echoed. These little things help make this game a contender for the Interactive Stanley Cup. EA Sports' NHL 2001 definitely has some competition this year, which is very good for everybody. Either way hockey fans choose, they can't lose! --Todd Mowatt Pros: A lightning-quick hockey simulation Great control Brings NHL legends back to the game Cons: Substandard graphics Scoring is at times too easy

Do not buy this game.
989 just wants your money, and so they put out a garbage title like this. This is a PSX rehash for PS2, because they have not yet commited to the new platform thinking they can get more money by staying with PSX, and merely releasing a product that has the PS2 packaging. I am very displeased with this company. I own NHL Faceoff 2000 for PSX, and there is almost no difference between it and 2001. The play-by-play is horrible, and only makes you wanna strangle Darren Pang. They say the same mundane garbage over and over and over. It's really quite annoying. The play it's self is weak, and there is not one single new feature on this disc that makes it worth buying. I purchased it on name alone, having owned several of their past titles. EA NHL 2001 is a product so superior to 989's insulting effort, that every time I see my friend playing his copy I get even more unhappy with 989 studios. EA's version actually fully utilizes the capabilities of the PS2 platform. So, trust a gamer who has owned at least 7 different hockey games on many different systems. NHL Faceoff 2001 is utter rubbish, and I will most likely never buy anything from 989 studios again.

An okay game, but falls short
I'm still getting the hang of the game, but I thought I would throw up my thoughts for anyone considering the game. I must admit, though, that overall it isn't one of 989's best and I was disappointed by the amount of time it took them to get the game out.Responsiveness - nice feel and time; Graphics - quite lacking for everything the emotion engine is supposed to deliver; Difficulty - rookie-mode is super easy, the other modes take some getting used to (probably an afternoon's learning curve); Fighting - I like the controls, but the setup for it is a bit contrited. Options - greater depth in on/off's and things you can do, but the computer always reserves the right to overrule (ick!). Control set up - throws you into the game too quickly and it's easy to run the wrong teams/players if you're not paying attention. So I guess this says it's not the prettiest of games, but one of the more playable (the game feels much more real-time than any of the hockey games that have been released over the past year - for any of the consoles). My score is hit by the fact that I was just honestly expecting more...and the fact that the goalie for the Flyers is not represented by a pic/announced in the game! :)

hot
Other than two NHL games for genesis, one being NHL 95, and Faceoff 2001 for original Playstation, this game is by far the best hockey game available on any console. Sure the graphics are not all that great compared to the newer consoles but the way you can change players, shoot and pass the puck, this is the best, its just so smooth. Hockey is not an easy game to design, Faceoff 2001 for PS2 is at the top of the mountain."Pride and Poise"

Fun, maybe but too easy
I love NHL games on a console. I own almost every hockey game for a console except for Dreamcast games. I found this game very easy. The first game I played I won 22-1. Then I turned on Arcade mode and the difficulty to All-Star, then I beat the San Jose Sharks with the Dallas Stars 15-2. The game was at it's maximum difficulty with five minute periods and I still scored 15 goals. It's a great game if you like blowout wins.

Horrible game
This is the Worst hockey game i have ever played. I returned it the same day i bought it. The Graphics on nhl 98 are better, the menus ..., and there isn't a full international team lineup. Buy NHL 2001, it is the best hockey game i have ever played. This game is poor, not worth ... let alone .... DO NOT BUY THIS GAME!

Great gameplay with PSONE graphics
This game plays very well, however that graphics are average at best. When you compare to NHL 2001 it looks a year behind. I bought the game for [$] and at that price it is a great buy.
