Casio Japanese Unisex Adult Digital Watch with Stainless Steel Strap B640WD1A, Black/Silver, OneSize, Bracelet

This is the best watch I have yet found and I have done a lot of searching. I hope they never stop making them. My requirements in a watch: 1. Digital 2. Looks OK with formal clothes A. Not tactical looking B. No unnecessary LED's, designs, maps, or anything else C. Not too large to fit under a long sleeve D. Metal or metallic looking 3. Buttons that push watch out of standard mode don't easily get pressed 4. Has a useful night view mode Such a watch is surprisingly difficult to find. If you look at watches that can reasonably look good with formal clothing, they are essentially all analog. Casio only makes a handful and I don't see any good competitors from other companies. The other Casio watches I have used in the past are the the classic A168W and more recently the A178WA. The former is a pretty good watch. Pretty close to optimal, though not quite as good as this one. The latter seems to have some upgraded features but there are several big steps backward. For example, one touch of a button changes the time from 12H to 24H. This button was very easily pressed. I don't know why they made that such a prominent feature...it's not like people are constantly wanting to change from standard to military time. Anyway it seemed like any time I checked it at night it was in military mode, so I had to try and change it back, but that would turn off the light and I could never remember which buttons were right. Setting the time was hard. Getting into and out of the stopwatch was hard. It had all the features, but they ignored which features were commonly used and which should be hard to get to when they were designing the UI. In short, I do NOT recommend the A178 despite the fact that it looks like an upgrade from the A168 and B640. Ok, so how is this watch different? Changing to military time is hard to get to, as it should be. The light button just turns on the light and isn't one of the buttons down at the bottom you always press. The button that is used to enter the mode that changes the time or alarm is flat, so it doesn't get pressed on accident. There is less obnoxious writing on the front face. The watch overall is a bit smaller and more curved. Even though the numbers are smaller, they are thicker and easier to read. Getting into and out of different modes is always the same button and it's really obvious (also not positioned in such a way that it gets pressed easily). The lower left button is always to change modes, the lower right is always to advance. Very easy to use and intuitive. Of course, it's not the perfect watch. * The band is made of bits of folded sheet metal. They work fine and look OK, but by no means luxurious. On the plus side they are super easy to resize with just a small screwdriver * The face plate is made of hard plastic painted to look like metal. If it takes a blow it scratches or dents * The watch is somewhat thicker than the A178 and, I think, heavier. * Countdown timer is too much of a fancy and hard-to-use feature. It would be better off without it. * Battery doesn't last 10 years, like the A178. I would happily pay several hundred dollars for a watch like this that was actually made of stainless steel and that had a better-built band and a scratchproof face (gorilla glass would be fine). Optimally the face would be silver as well, instead of black. Unfortunately, Casio thinks of this as a vintage watch for people trying to relive the '80s, rather than the closest-to-perfection watch that has ever been created. If only the rest of the world had my sense of style and utility, we could have some nice things.

Just purchased this model to add to my collection of The El Cheapo line of Casio Watches. They are my favorite watches because of their practicality. They're simple. They work. They last. They don't kill your wallet when they do finally give out (average lifespan for me has been about 10 years each). I also am a fan of classic things and my aesthetic sense tends to gravitate to the humble. The basic Casio watches to me are like Levi's jeans and Chuck Taylors--tastefully timeless (no pun intended) without breaking the bank (though many may argue--and rightfully so--that even Levi's & Chucks are pushing the limits of affordablility these days). Although technically this model looks like it is an updated version of the classic Casio B612W (Google it), functionally it has all the same features as the A168W-1 (my all-time fave: Casio Men's A168W-1 Electro Luminescence Digital Bracelet Watch ) with an added countdown timer. The main display has the important data you need: Time/Month/Date/Day of the Week. The Illuminator light is amber colored instead of blue like on the A168 and it stays lit for 2 secs after you release the button (nice touch). Aesthetically, it's a little more modern-era, rounder and sleeker than the comfort-evoking, retro chunkiness of the B612W & A168W-1. The stainless steel case is now resin, painted to give a frosted silver appearance and the text on the face border is more subdued and minimized (like a MacBook Pro or iPhone--Intentional?). I have no concerns of it not working for the next decade, unless I do something to physically damage it (These aren't G-Shocks). And even if I do, Neither I nor my wallet have any qualms about replacing it with another one. Don't get me wrong, I like (and own) other more expensive wristwatches, but there will always be a special place in my heart and in my watch rotation for classic Casios.

This model was the closest I could find to having all the functions that I needed, in a suitable style, without paying a lot more. The resin bezel isn't as good-looking as a stainless or chromed version, but it's reasonable. It's also lightweight. I would have preferred a gold-tone color scheme, but the black and gray scheme is OK. The backlight is adequate in most cases, but I would have preferred it to be momentary-on (while holding the button in) rather than a several-second time-out action. (It seems to stay on a lot longer than needed, probably wasting the battery. Also, I'm not sure how to keep it on while doing operations - like setting, changing modes, etc. I guess it's best to do things during daylight). I like the month-date display, but the day display has only two characters instead of three, and can be a bit confusing at a quick glance in dim light. (For example, "FR" looks more like "FA", and often gives me a "huh? moment"). Some of the other display segments seem like they could have been shaped better, too, for better clarity. The overall display is reasonably-well laid out, but seems a bit "plain", and lacks some function/status indicators, that I'm used to helping me keep tabs on the status. Despite all that, this is one of the best display layouts that I've seen in this price range. Operationally, it seems to be good; most of the operations are "intuitive" and smooth, and give good "feedback"... but there were a couple of operations that seemed a bit "cumbersome" to me: Setting alarms, and using the chronometer (stopwatch). One useful feature that is missing is either dual time modes or else an easy way to switch between daylight and standard time. I have not had this watch long enough to comment on its durability, battery life, moisture resistance, etc. There are aspects that I would have liked to be better or different, but this model has the best compromise of style, features, modes, and price that I found, in relation to my own needs.

When I received the watched I felt like I had found the perfect one. Fully functional, pretty light, good design. Overall, I was about to write a 5-star review. However, after only one day of normal use – no harsh conditions, really just regular use, knowing I'm quite cautious with my belongings – it got a glitch right on the case. So beware: even though it's called a "Stainless Steel Watch", the case is NOT made of steel. It's made out of a cheap kind of resin that allows the watch to be lighter, but also makes it much less durable. I really got disappointed with this point. For under $20, it's still a great watch, worth 4 stars (good quality/price ratio), but I'd rather put a 3-star review to drag your attention on this point if you're looking for a solid or durable watch as I was.

After 6 months of use, traveling and swimming in the ocean and pools with it I can attest to the quality. I wear this every day 24/7 except showering. I'll break down my review in a some categories. Build Quality: 4/5 Plastic resin case which differs from the stainless steel band. The difference is only really noticeable from a distance. The resin case has received some small scratches on the corners from usual wear but is hardly noticeable and I'm extremely impressed by how well this watch has held up and maintained its metal look. Comfortability: 5/5 This watch has a very small profile on the wrist making it extremely comfortable and lightweight. It is so low profile and unnoticeable I rarely take this watch off, and often sleep with it on. The stainless strap can rarely catch hairs but is generally comfortable and easily adjustable and can narrow down your fit. Water resistance: 5/5 Swam in the ocean and a pool on a few occasions at shallow depths and was not affected. Functions: This watch is extremely accurate, possibly only a few seconds per month at most. Due to this the only time I have had to update time was when traveling. The mode function is easy to use and it's very simple to only change the hour function when changing time zones to make traveling quite easy.

Sure this watch does not have a steel case however the band is. You will not notice though, the watch looks very clean. This watch displays the time to the second, the month and day of the month and the actually day (TU) for Tuesday. On top of all that its water proof to 50 m. This is the perfect watch for my needs but if you have a large wrist I would consider something else because this is a small watch.

This watch has REALLY great functions, pretty much G-shock features in the module and that's my favorite thing about it. The silver painted case though, should have been chrome-plated (like the A158, A168, and A178 models), the paint starts to wear down at the sharp edged corners specifically. While it does not look bad even with the corners getting slightly worn, it's annoying. I think it is a design flaw and they should have used the more durable chrome plating. But I like the size of it, it's similar to the A168 in size and it wears comfortably. And the build quality is very good despite the silver finish. It's not a bad watch overall, especially given the price and all the features not found on similar watches of this style or at this price point. If you are a fan of the functions of a basic Casio G-Shock, but at the same time, want to be a little dressy, and do not like watch bands, then you are in for a surprise. This watch is so damn good. Easy to wear, very good backlight, and has a blinking function for alarm and chime.. Very good product.
