Will this vise head fit large saltwater hooks?

I’ve tied up to an 8/O with it for 4oz buck tails but it’s a bit difficult. You really need to crank down on the vice. It may be worth spending the extra $ on one designed for larger hooks.

Can the vise and base be removed from the case? If so, is the base heavy enough to not move around when tying flies?

No....the vise including base stay case.....it was very convenient to use and having your tools right next to the vise. I tied over 500 flies over 3 months for the trip I took in may.....it did a great job 👍👍
