Transformers Dark of the Moon

Great book, a good movie adaptation

Based on the screenplay of the movie. Summary for the people who don't know the film: Transformers are robot-beeings from planet Cybertron who can change their form. They splitted in two fractions: good Autobots and evil Decepticons who fought against each other in a long war. A ship of the Autobots with a mighty weapon got lost and crashed onto the moon - the real reason for Apollo 11, in which humen found the ship. Sam Witwicky, hero of movie 1 and 2 has a new girlfriend and is looking for a job, but this jobs things to bring him close to the Decepticons, again ... Well, this book is exactly the same as the movie, except you have little more inner look of the characters. Maybe some unimportant details in dialogs are different. Beside this the writing style is good, although the characters are unique but without deeper personality. Who expected something else? Bad things about the book are the bad things of the movie: The whole concept of Transformers could be great but is implemented as crap: What are they, how can they transform, how did they evolved, how do they breed? Why do one become Autobots and other Decepticons? (In the movie: Why do they have blue or red (or green, yellow) eye colors?) Why do beeings made from steel have ships made of steel, it's not like we have ships made from flesh or so. Decepticons are riddiculous, always in rage, killing everything, pure evil. But they can fly, Autobots not, and always have the great stuff like Driller. Good book indeed, but everything else ...

Good read

I have to think that when I started this novel I had some idea of what was going to happen, but I found myself like the autobots completely 'sideswiped' by this novel, by the actions of a select few that cause the whole dynamic of this epic war to shift into something far beyond just right and wrong. This is a classic G1 story line ripped from the past and retold in stellar detail. The science fiction is written in such a way that one could believe it and for what it's worth, you want hope beyond your heart that what's happening isn't really what's going on. As you read this, it's clear something greater is at stake here, this isn't so much about the robots, but it's about Mankind, and their struggle to save their own. Yes the Transformers help them, but like the humans the transformers lose their own too. There are five autobot deaths written in this book, and for the sake of my review I won't spoil those for you, but the ache I felt after reading this, and though in the end the earth is saved, I was left feeling as heartbroken and sorrowfull as Prime himself, who truely becomes at the end of the novel the Prime we've been wanting to see, but have not in the Michael Bay Franchise. If this is what the movie has in store for us this will be a BLOCKBUSTER, it will be shock and awe, and it will change the way some of the hardcore fans, like myself, look at Optimus Prime. Til all are one; we are here, we are home.

Amazing novelization. The Optimus Prime POV makes it feel more personal, the ending is what the film did wrong, but here, it feels so authentic and organic, the tiredness of Megatron and the story feels more realistic.

Livre en version originale. Très bon novel, délivrant certains détails que le films ne nous fait pas voir. Très bien écrit et très bien compréhensible pour un niveau universitaire d'anglais.
