LiftMaster8587 Elite Series ¾ HP AC Chain Drive Garage Door Opener Does Not Include Chain Rail

Was an easy setup. My other Liftmaster was too old we had to get new rail but this machine runs great! Loving it!

Like how quiet it is. Unfortunately it is quite heavy.

I actually love this new motor I just bought. It's fast, quiet, powerful and I love my Q. The reason why I gave this a poor rating. You may have problems linking this with your homelink on your cars. For cars 2012 and older, you'll need to buy an additional bridge to link the old homelink to the new system. If I would've known, I would have bought a different system that would work on my cars. Overall very happy. In the Q&A for this item it said it would not work with the old T-rail. That is incorrect. It will work. I had an old (1998) liftmaster with the T-rail and I took the chance that this new liftmaster would connect to it and it would work fine. It did. It was a drop in replacement and very easy to swap out with the old. First small issue was that it won't work with any of my old remotes or keypad. No big deal. I am know buying some new ones. Second larger issue is that my new 2017 car with HomeLink will not talk to the opener. Bummer. The instal manual said that I likely have to buy a HomeLink repeater. This was a little frustrating. Will have to buy that also. I was going to give 3 stars but I also purchased the Liftmaster Internet gateway 828LM and it was really easy to setup and worked the first try. I was very impressed with this since the app installed on my phone and worked the first time. Just plug the gateway into your network before you try to add the device on the web.

Am very happy with this unit. Quiet, and the smart phone App interface works great. I love how a open/close history log is maintained. It is a good security alert mechanism to track when the door goes up or down.

I used it to replace my old liftmaster opener. Hence no need for t rail or chain. It was simple to install done my my wife and myself. Everything pretty much worked from the first try. Only thing is I would like to see reverse compatibility to the older openers so we could still use our onboard factory openers from the early 2000’s.

As noted elsewhere, the unit comes without rails or chain. Because we were replacing an existing unit, with rails and chain, I assumed "no rails no problem"... wrong. Apparently the required rails are specific to this manufacturer. Fortunately the installer was able to locate the needed parts and had a vehicle to transport the 7 foot rails. The unit is quiet, integrates with cell phone, and no problem operating with built-in buttons in car.On a related subject, several "professional" businesses, whose advertised speciality is installation of this product and referred by the manufacturer quoted 3-4 times the actual cost I paid for installation by a local licensed handyman service who did a prompt and professional job. Be careful!
