303 Convertible Top Brush: Expensive and problematic -could be better designed with natural bristle.
I purchased this brush on a promotion from Amazon which made it less expensive as this brush is supplied from the USA. The mark up for USA supplied goods is ridiculous 2x plus the US price. Presently, however the 303 brush is getting close to the price point of the Ragg Topp Haartz Soft top brush, which is £4.50 more. (I know of no evidence that the Haartz brush will be better as the design is almost identical including the split-end bristles (green rather than beige) but their advertising blurb (BS) sounds better. You will observe from the product photograph that the bristle ends have been machined to split the ends of the bristles so as to make the bristles softer and finer but as observed by other users the fine bristle ends fracture easily. Even before you use the brush you will find that many of the split-ends have become detached from the bristles and you will need to agitate the brush when dry to shake out these broken ends otherwise you will find as many other users that your fabric top will have hundreds of these 1cm fine nylon fibres sticking out of your fabric roof requiring you to use a sticky lint-remover roll to pull them out of the fabric (unless you like the "hedge-hog" look for your soft top). As far as the advertising blurb is concerned "Soft, durable bristles safely loosens dirt and debris" The bristles are too-soft, are not durable and do not effectively loosen dirt and debris but on the positive side they do not cause damage to the fabric roof. The problem, I believe, is the use of synthetic brush bristles - natural bristles would probably be better. I suspect the brush might improve over time as the the brush sheds more of its split ends allowing the remaining and slightly more robust bristles to agitate the dirt more effectively. The handle is not as ergonomic as suggested but it would benefit from a loop-strap to secure the brush to the palm of the hand. The wood handle would allow a strap adaptation if someone was inclined. I think that a badger bristle shaving brush would do a better job at gently loosening dirt from stubborn areas while the 303 brush would be adequate for less dirty areas.
