LOVE this product
For years I have looked for something that worked for my hair. I have soft hair that is thick and get wavy then curly as it grows out. I have tried a ton of different products . They are either way to thick on the hair, high shine, don't hold, super waxy, too oily the list goes on. I gave this a try after absolutely loving the bears products . It has a slight orange scent. It goes on and gives a very natural well groomed look. No shine, does a great job holding my hair , makes it look thick. The only thing is that you do get a light film on your hair but it doesn't get on your hands and honestly what hair product doesn't really leave something on your hair ? It does wash off very easily too. Only a little is needed . It is on the thick side, I'd say like clay so really just a fingertip of product is needed for short hair. you do need to run it for a sec on your palms but that's like 5 seconds so any complaining about that is just that complaining. Important tip, use it on dry hair . Makes a huge difference. I expected quality from the brand and I got it. I'm very happy to have found this product.

Does what it says
This hair paste is different from the usual pomade I use. It takes a bit more work to get it incorporated, but has a similar, overall textured look in the end. I like the fact that it has very little scent to it. When it comes to hair product perfumes and colognes, less is more for me.

For a more natural look ... not the firmest hold here.
I don't know if I'd call this a paste ... it's more like a light hold putty, if that makes sense. It actually looks a lot like plummer's putty, which is a greasy orange putty that you use to seal pipes with. Even the metal tin it comes in seems more like a putty tin than a hair care product. But, this product does exactly what it says it will do ... it gives hair a bit of texture or shape without making it slick or firm.If you are looking for something for spiking ... or to create a drastic part and swept up look, this is not your stuff. This works best if you want to have your hair look natural and somewhat styled ... eliminating a fluffy like your hair 'dried after the shower look' for those who use no product. This doesn't leave any shine or glossyness. It is matte all the way ... your hair will feel somewhat sticky but not crispy or crunchy the way this company's other product (see my other review for their Sea Salt Styling Paste) leaves your hair. You can texturize your hair for a good shape with a pliable hold and it does separate out a part without being too dramatic. My hair is dark brown and I spike it up like Harvey Spector in the show Suits. As such, this product isn't really dramatic enough for my spiky needs ... but it would be great for more simple hair styles. Sometimes at formal events, I will do a simple side part, for which this product (along with a few spritzes of a holding spray) does great.Let's talk about packaging. It has a cool vintage sort of look. The metal tin/can looks a bit like an old shoe polish can and the colors and font look pleasing on your vanity next to your razor, etc. if you are into interior design. The cover is a bit awkward to slide on and off and almost seems upside down in its function and design. It seems like it would be good for travel ... small enough to fit in a dopp kit but sturdy enough not to slide open due to the threads on the inner rim.Overall, for my needs, I probably wouldn't order this again. My go-to is American Crew Styling Paste. For the money I have not found a better performing product than American Crew. But, the American Crew holds are a bit stronger ... so you might like this better for adding texture without forming a more dramatic style. At under $20, it seems like much higher quality than some of the cheaper products you find for under $10. It looks cool in a vintage-inspired bathroom, it does what it says it will (and no more) and British made products are pretty cool.

Surprisingly matte finish, low hold
I’m really surprised at how matte of a finish this leaves in your hair. It really looks like you haven’t applied any product, while adding quite a bit of texture. There’s some hold, but it’s on the lighter side. I didn’t notice much volume getting added, so I personally have been combining it with another volumizing sea salt mousse by Murdock.I’ve used American Crew’s Fiber (a high-hold, low-shine product) for years, but have been enjoying this for a change of pace. By comparison, this leaves my hair WAY more matte/texturized in appearance, with a much lighter hold.

Could be better
A bit hard to work with, more like clay than paste. Feels dry out of the container so getting it to work requires more effort. The hold is not as strong as others from this brand. It does give the appearance of a more natural look if don't correctly.

Not great
Really disappointed - it's more like window chalk than hair paste. Tossing it in the bin and looking elsewhere.

Very good
This stuff is pretty much the polar opposite of Murdock's sea salt paste. The sea salt paste is an incredibly thin liquid while this stuff is a thick putty that takes real pressure just to get out of the tub. my advice to Murdock, in fact, would be to change the names of these products as they can't both be pastes. They're nothing like each other, and you're making that word work too hard.I like the hold this stuff provides. It's a firmer hold than the sea salt paste, but it doesn't leave behind any stickiness and it doesn't clump my hair. It just adds volume and gives me bedhead, which is just what I'm looking for. The finish is matte, and you can rework your style a little throughout the day.You should be careful to melt the paste a little between your fingers before applying or it'll just gum up your hair. I use a hairdryer to warm it, and once it's pliable it's very easy to run through my hair.
