Polder Candy/Jelly/Deep Fry Thermometer, Stainless Steel, with Adjustable Sliding Pot Clip Attachment and Quick Reference Temperature Guide

I bought this for my wife who likes baking and deep frying. She found that most recipes didn't work even though she was using the right temperature according to this thermometer. She suspected that it was not displaying the right temperature. I tested it with boiling water, which should be 100C - the thermometer never got over 66C. I am disappointed with this purchase.

I've had it a few years and it it still great except that the dishwasher is wearing the numbers off. I will try marking the 360-380 fry zone with a sharpie.

I bought this and another thermometer at the same time to corroborate. With boiling water, this was not as accurate as the other one. Tried to return this one, and apparently it is only returnable if defective or damaged. In my case it was, but FYI, if you are buying just to check like me, and it IS accurate, you cannot return it.

This is a case where the designers forgot two things: 1) Old eyes still cook, bu they don't necessarily see as well as younger eyes. 2) So many modern pots/pans have a slightly rolled rim at the top; the clip on this thermometer doesn't adapt very well and so the thermometer winds up sticking too far in the center of some of my pots. All that said, it is nonetheless accurate, which is really what counts ....

This thermometer is very well made and much sturdier than the last all glass thermometer I had...it is designed to stand in the pot unassisted when you are making candy and the numbers are clear and easy to read. I have the digital thermometer that was recommended by the chef who taught the candy class but it requires you to open it and hold it in the hot candy mixture then set it aside when done...and that was annoying and once you get near your target temperature the temperature can rise quite quickly...so this thermometer makes watching the climb in temperature much easier. Glad I finally bought this!
