It's a monster but it makes fast work out of grating cheese.
This grater is serious! It's large, takes up a lot of space to store it, and is a little odd in how it holds the cheese (that's all I have used it for so far.) Of course, you probably know that just by looking. You wouldn't buy a cheese grater that costs the high side of $100 to sprinkle a little cheese on your salad. You'd buy it to grate some serious food. I had two blocks of cheese, 8 oz each, and I almost wish I had more. This thing is fast and quiet. It's solid and grated both blocks in about 3 minutes, most of which was putting the shredded cheese away. You put in your cheese, turn the crank, and it just silently grates the snot out of your cheese. You pull this out to grate up those 5 lb blocks of Mozzarella for your pizzas, or to slice blocks for cracker trays or something. It's pretty easy to clean, and comes with a nice stainless steel bowl. So far, my only dislikes are the size of the thing and you can't grate the very end of the cheese. The last 1/2" or so just passes out, but I just call that a snack! If you're like me and hate dragging out the food processor or salad shooter to grate a lot of cheese, this may be just what you're looking for. It's sturdy, mostly made of metal and I expect it to last a long time! Now, where to put it when I'm not using it...

just marvelous
this thing is fabulous. when I was a kid, my dad had my grandmother's. hers had suction cups, but they didn't really hold. this one, you just plop it down on the counter and it STAYS. but here's what you really need to know....MATERIALS: the base and cones are steel. the swing arm is steel. the little handle is plastic. I assume that's going to break in a few minutes. the guide chute is steel. the finger guard is plastic. again ...just waiting on that one to break.FUNCTION: So there are a bunch of reviews where people complain that they didn't get instructions. well, socks don't come with instructions, either. apparently, the manufacturer just had too much faith in you. there are cones with holes on one end, and there is the base with little ridges. fit the holes into the ridges. ta-da. now turn the crank. it's manual. it doesn't have batteries. it's not solar-powered: it's you powered. here's a finger guard at the top that flips down to protect or flips away if it's not needed. it's super obvious that it flips down because IT'S SHIPPED IN THAT POSITION. when you get down to the bottom of the veggie, flip it down, and keep going. safe fingers!PROCESSING: I grated 8 carrots in less than a minute. I sliced 2 bunches of radishes in about 2 minutes (that was mostly travel time because I had to keep going back for more radishes.) a full block of cheese was around a minute. a cucumber fully sliced was about a minute. if you've ever worked with a grater or mandolin, you know they're not that fast.CLEAN UP: yesterday, I was slicing, peeling, chopping, and grating for 2-3 hours to make a big garden salad, so I used this quite a bit. I washed between uses and the only thing that was a bit of a struggle was after the cheese. the oils always stick, so it's not surprising. what did surprise me was that the grater cone chewed up my sponge, even though I was scrubbing with the grates and not against. I'm going to chalk that up to super sharp blades. otherwise, the bowl came clean with a quick wipe and rinse. so did the base.STORAGE: I haven't tried to put this in my cupboard yet, but already I know it's going to be easier to store than many because the base is actually 2 parts. instead of trying to store this tall thing, just pull it apart, lay it down, and it's like 1/4 the height! I'm pretty excited about that part.HEFT: I wanted a nice grater. I've tried the grater that you put over a storage box. I've tried the plastic rotary grater. I've tried a mandolin-type. they all kinda suck. a box grater works well, but every one I've ever used is awful to get clean. I wanted one that would last and work well, so I took the plunge and bought this one. I'm SOOOOoooo glad! it's sturdy and really feels like it will last.OVERALL: I've spent way too much money on cheap alternatives. I believe this one will last. and if yesterday is any measure, I'm going to love it for years and years!

Excellent!
I use this for almost everything I need to slice or cut - very helpful for bulk canning days!

I love this grater! The fact that I can grate a large (over 1 pound) block of cheese in less than 5 minutes and not break a sweat is truly impressive for this upgrade from my old box grater. Bonus: my knuckles are safe too! There’s not a narrow opening/tube like my previous electric grater I had in the past. Instead there’s a rest stop that holds you grated items in place so all I have to do is hold a slight downward pressure to the cheese and turn the crank. Once you get to the smaller pieces of cheese/veggies, you can flip the pivot food holder over to apply pressure to the top of your food grating project without any knuckle scraping. The suction cups on the base do a great job of keeping your grater stationary. The main reason I love this grater besides how easy it is to use, is the solid metal blade cones. My electric grater cracked the plastic cones around the metal blades after only 3 uses. The reason I give this 4/5 stars is the plastic crank handle and it may or may not hold up, but I don’t have the best of luck with plastic. Would I recommend getting this grater? Absolutely! It saves me lots of time and made my work in the kitchen more efficient plus I’m not limited to only using my grater near a power source.

Great product!
Love this so much I bought one as a gift. I have more expensive graters but this works better and faster. Easy storage. Easy to use and clean.

This works!
Wow!!! I was extremely impressed. Similar experience to using saladmaster at half the price. Soon as I opened it I was able to make a cauliflower and fingerling potato jambalaya with roasted beet fries. (I’m not vegetarian but wanted to see what I could shred quickly.) took maybe 5 minutes to slice and shred everything. Finger guard worked great.

Great quality
Was not cheap but that is what I wanted...rather than getting a cheap $30 grater every year for the foreseeable future this one has the durability to last a lifetime+.
